作者Archer本人经历也是丰富坎坷，曾是世界一流短跑运动员，还参加过牛津剑桥赛艇，从政之后，担任过英国保守党副主席，并当选下议院议员，经商失败后一贫如洗，开始写小说，后又坐过牢，极富传奇。
多年前买过纸质版，没想到出电子版了。很有意思的故事，推荐阅读。
精装和平装的区别似乎只是封面从银色变成了金色，封面凑合，纸质不怎么样。
包装竟然是一个很大的亚马逊塑料袋而已，书在里面荡来荡去，角都卷了，书脊背也磕伤了点，这进口书包装还不如普通书，纳闷了，卓越以前连一片小小的洗面奶都用盒子加一堆空气带包装，做的非常好，现在好几十的书包的却那么建议，得改进不能倒退啊！～
很喜欢这个小说，但纸质发黄，很差。
This book snagged me from the first page to the very last.
I loved the storyline. Really loved how it followed both main characters from their birth all the way thru the lives.
Great character development and growth.
How the author switched the point of view throughout the story really helped you to really understand both major characters and what motivates them .
It's a great read...really makes you think about the dangers of holding on to grudges

This was a magnificent book. Mr Archer is a great author. I wondered as I read this story where and how does he come-up with these stories and lead the reader through the mystery. This MUST become a movie!! As a lover of good books this is top shelf writing, and a book that grabs the reader and hold them until the last word. I literally could not walk away from this story; there were many characters to remember but as you continued to read it became easier to stay in touch with each one of them. I actually became so involved in the lives of these characters that I cried and at times laughed; there was also a short period of frustration with one person in particular. I have recommended this book to some of my friends who love to read as much as I do. This is an academy award, of books, winner!
I read the hardback copy of this book many years ago. Now I've just read the electronic version. I found it is still a thrill ride of a book and is peopled with unforgettable characters. Can't wait for another Archer book to invade my life and take it over like the first book did. All the fictional books I've read by this master storyteller have been exceptional; now I need to read his nonfiction books. I enjoy reading this author because I usually learn a bit of history in the midst of the plot twists and characters' lives.
First two chapters down and I knew am in for an epic saga. The book had me right from the stories of the two protagonists being christened.
This was one of the finest examples of how the characters are built. Every single one, even the supporting ones, was well shaped. With that done in the backdrop of the historical events, they felt real. To see how each one of the events impacted the characters had a smile on my face. I was emotionally with them in their rise to success, rooting for one at times, while the other at others. Their stories might feel cliched, but I felt them. And then they met, right around the middle.
I felt the second half was a bit weak. The events became forced every time the characters had to meet. Kane and Abel, as individuals, had me intrigued. But Kane and Abel together? Not much. The rivalry felt contrived, childish. Agreed, I was interested to know what unfolded next. But it played out just the way I predicted. Interested, and then disappointed not to be proved wrong.
And I have to mention that the romantic parts were the weakest. Such lifeless, boring mentions of jumbled adult words. There for just no reason. Good they didn't last long, I cringed every time.
Having said all, I did enjoy the novel, an entertaining read. It had me interested in Kane and Abel till the end. And that's where it succeeded.
