跨越时代的杰作!真正的艺术!印刷,纸张,开本大小都无可挑剔一次性将这本杰作收入囊中的机会,不能犹豫!
Outstanding! This is easily the best presentation of Little Nemo ever. I have bought other versions of this material including the Fantagraphics, Sunday Press, and Taschen's own smaller size collection, and this one outshines them all. The complete series is finally printed in full color and in large format. You can see every detail in McCay's beautifully composed panels and pages. The coloring is great and the illustrations are wonderful. The book is so big it comes in its own Nemo cardboard suitcase carrying case with a handle on top. You need to have muscles to lift this book or you will develop muscles lifting this book it's so heavy. To be able to experience the complete Nemo in this grand format is a treat and if this is your first experience with Little Nemo then lucky you. Highly recommended!
I own both Sunday Press volumes of selected 'Little Nemo' pages. As someone who loves cartooning and believes Winsor McCay was the Michelangelo of cartoonists, I was excited to know that there were even more 'Little Nemo' pages that were not include in the Sunday Press books and that these were now available in one oversize, deluxe volume. Though, some years ago Fantagraphics put out a multivolume complete set, the page size is woefully inadequate to properly capture the detail and majestic splendor of this opus. Plus, these out of print volumes have become excruciatingly expensive. So when I found out about the Taschen double volume set, I had to have it.
On the positive side, Amazon does a thorough job of packaging for shipping this very large and heavy book, not always a given with other sellers. Once the packaging and carrying case is opened, I found first the softbound book which details McCay's life and work while putting it in context of the early Twentieth Century. It is well researched and has many illustrations and photos. Then there is the hardbound volume that contains all of "Little Nemo in Slumberland" and "In the Land of Wonderful Dreams" and is a thing of beauty; the paper, the binding, the way it is designed along with the work displayed are breathtaking. But, while the black line work of the drawings are printed crisply, the colorwork is, for the most part, clearly inferior to the Sunday Press books - which is a crying shame. All the work that went into this lavish volume yet the scans did not appear to be worked on or cleaned up at all. You see creases more than a few times and badly registered color many times. To be sure, some the pages came out perfectly but, by and large, the pages that can be compared with its Sunday Press counterparts usually suffer in comparison.
I'm still very glad I possess this complete version so I have all the work but then I'm a fanatic about this stuff. If you only require about 110 of the best of Nemo, by all means get the first volume of the Sunday Press book.
Purchased as a Christmas gift for my mother. Every time she saw Little Nemo artwork anywhere, she commented on how she'd love to have a couple prints to hang on the wall. And then I saw this on Amazon. She never even saw it coming.
This item is expensive. But for the price, the set includes:
- An 18" x 24" hard-bound collection of the complete Little Nemo comics: Proper respect was paid to the artwork: each piece has its own page, so the artwork isn't ruined by a page division. The binding is excellent.
- An 18" x 24" biography of sorts, of both the artist and Little Nemo: it's quite fascinating and makes an excellent companion to the art book.
- A sturdy, decorative box in which both pieces are protected. Box comes with a nice handle on one side, making transport much easier, while still protecting the contents.
If you know someone who reminisces about Little Nemo, or someone who just likes artwork from that time, or someone who collects large books, or someone who collects coffee table books, BUY THIS for him. It's a great item.
Just got this and it is remarkable!
Like any red-blooded, comics-loving American boy, I was fascinated with McCay and Nemo when I was younger, to the point of stealing the (tiny, partial) collected Nemo from our local library when I was twelve. But the reproduced images and text were so small, they still seemed inaccessible. (and the book was lost in a move, justice being served)
And now this. This is wonderful-huge, massive, unwieldy and wonderful. The colors are true, the text is legible and the stories! The half-century historical remove from my 12-year-old admiration of the work makes the tales even stranger and more marvelous than they might have seemed in the 60s.
I do not consider myself a materialistic person, but this is one possession I unapologetically indulged myself in acquiring. It is one of those life-long "one of these days, maybe, I'll get..." type of acquisitions. Indeed, my 12-year-old self is almost completely satisfied.
Now I just need a sword cane...
