ABOUT THE AUTHOR
William Shirer was originally a foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and was the first journalist hired by Edward R. Murrow for what would become a team of journalists for CBS radio. Shirer distinguished himself and quickly became known for his broadcasts from Berlin, accounting the rise of the Nazi dictatorship through the first year of World War II. Shirer was the first of "Edward R. Murrow's Boys"--broadcast journalists--who provided news coverage during World War II and afterward. It was Shirer who broadcast the first uncensored eyewitness account of the annexation of Austria. Shirer is best known for his books The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, which has seen millions of copies in print and is considered a seminal work on the Nazi party and the war, as well as his book Berlin Diary.

原价$29.99美元（封底上有印），美国亚马逊打折后报$18.23（折合人民币114.5元）且300多人给了五星评价。赶上这里搞活动，118拿下还是很划算的。本书有《现代汉语辞典》那么厚，用了略微发黄的纸质印刷，有助于缓解视疲劳。本书应该是2011年版的，通篇没有一幅插图，全是字。如果能象中文版那样至少给个二战时期的欧洲地图就好了。
以前在学校资料室看过一遍，可是那本是盗版书，字迹较小，看得很吃力。所以专门在亚马逊买一本，准备重新再看，和老公一起讨论纳粹的兴衰。英语达到一定水平、尤其是对二战史感兴趣的读者千万不要错过！你会发现市面上一些讲二战的书以及英美二战电影里的某些情节在这本书里都可以找到出处。
对，忘记说，书是正版，厚度相当于一本英英词典，大小合适，物有所值，非常值得收藏！
看过这本书的中文版，感觉不错。正好赶上促销，和朗文第五版词典一块买的。这本书比那本词典还厚，页数少了近800页，原来是纸张类型不一样。这本书的纸张很好，淡黄色的，养眼，是不是就是所说的道林纸啊。书拿着很厚重，纸张比一般原版英文小说的用纸强多了（这种书很轻，是用环保纸印刷的）。至于内容嘛，就像有的书友所言，本书是记者所写，虽然资料宏富，可是历史深度未免打了折扣。另外，偏颇之处也在所难免。本书一幅插图也没有，叫做50周年纪念版有点名不副实，这点还赶不上中文版呢。本书光索引就有50多页，老外写书就是认真，放在国内，恐怕没几个人会这么做。参考资料也有10多页。
总之，这本书对于了解纳粹德国历史还是很有帮助的。推荐购买，如果能看的下去的话。
拿到书以后 不得不感叹外国人对书籍的制作 真不是国人可比的 很厚一本 但拿到手里面并不是很重 就是少些图片 如果能加进去写历史图片效果更好了
历时一年终于把这本上千页的书看完了。作者文笔优美，内容气势磅礴，很吸引人，不仅练习了英语也了解了一段历史。本书的重点是政治、外交，对战场的描写一笔带过，个别地方也不乏幽默。和其他读者有同感，如果书内能附有当时的欧洲地图就好了，尤其是德、俄、波三国的版图和现在有一定区别，建议看之前可在网上先了解一下也有助于阅读。感觉美国人对书籍出版是很敬业的，光索引批注就厚达100页，这也是值得国内同行学习的。
要有x-ray,好多人名看起来就没那么费劲了，出版社再上上心
现代世界史的经典著作，中文版已经看了多遍，再看英文原版很有意义，更多体会，还能作学英语的材料。
之所以买书自然是因为需要这本书而下订单的，因此给了四星是为书本身。
书的包装只能给半颗星！当年带着笑脸盒子的亚马逊包装哪里去了？
为了节省成本都用这种廉价的毫无保护功能的塑料纸袋了啊？什么东西到了中国就变差了。
人们不了解历史的话怎能看清现在
这本书看过二遍，非常值得看，是了解第二次世界大战，纳粹，希特勒以及德国，威玛共和国的破灭的极好教材。
