As an English tutor, whenever I'm in doubt about a particular usage I know there's one authority that I can always turn to for a reliable explanation. For vocabulary, it has to be the Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary, because the "definitions" are so much more than that. Non-native users of English can understand everything immediately, it's so well written.
When it comes to grammar there's no other choice for me but the Collins Cobuild English Grammar. Unlike many other books which list grammar points alphabetically (A is for Adjective) and leave you in the dark abou"rest":"t pretty much everything, this grammar starts from a completely different standpoint. It asks \"What do you want to say?\" and then shows you how we say it in English. One feature that I find particularly helpful is the lists of words and phrases that can be used to carry out a particular function - e.g. \"Here is a list of nouns which refer to speech actions: account, advice, answer, example ...\" Very useful in ways that a thesaurus sometimes isn't.<br />In short, even though it won't always answer questions such as \"Why is an adjective called an adjective?\", this grammar won't let you down. Highly recommended."
Collins Cobuild English Grammar 最大的特点在于它的例句完全使用了Cobuild 语料库。Cobuild不仅建立了一个大型语料库，而且梳理语料的方式远远走在了竞争对手的前列。早在上世纪八九十年代，他们以TOESL为目的对语料的处理方式至今仍无人企及。这本书不难读，也有中译本（英语语法大全，商务的）但其中某些例句做了些处理。不如英文版原汁原味。如果不是研究而是使用英语，能把这本掌握就足够用了。夸克的太深，朗文语法又略浅了些（不好意思，似乎有点自大了）。
买来后读了几页，爱不释手，学了这么多年英语，有很多理论和实践不一样的地方一直觉得模糊，在这里面竟都能找到答案！

拆开封面第一眼就看到外皮被折了一下，非常明显，给人第一印象就不好啊，不知道是物流出问题了还是这本书在店里就是这样
