Some books should be required reading. This book conveys so much knowledge and so many mind expanding ideas.

Having heard professor Dawkins in Philadelphia it made the read even more enjoyable. People desperately need to combat the rampant anti-intellectual sentiment that is growing ever popular,and this book is a vehicle to do just that.

This book isn't technical, but it is not the easiest read. I had to stop and digest a few times, but my prior knowledge was weak. That being said I am buying "The Extended Phenotype" at once. I will own all his works before it's over.

This deserves a place in every home beside "A brief History of Time"

The Selfish Gene elucidates the genetic determinants of biological structure, function and behavior in a highly articulate, yet comprehensible manner. This book has withstood the test of time and it's central theme is as relevant as it was forty years ago, thanks to the preface and epilogue. The author's writing skill and erudition make it an enjoyable and highly informative read.

well written - explains a lot in simple language.

This is the first of his books I've read, and I expect to read all his others before I die. A challenging topic to understand, for me anyway. Dawkins writes clearly, with wit.

For anyone interested in the Big Picture ( granted, from the the tiny gene's POV), this is a must-read! 40 years old , but still mind-expanding. The annotations also bring it up to date.
