Scott Snyder has written comics for both DC and Marvel, including the best-selling series AMERICAN VAMPIRE, BATMAN, SWAMP THING and SUPERMAN UNCHAINED. He is also the author of the story collection Voodoo Heart (Dial Press). He teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College, NYU and Columbia University. He lives on Long Island with his wife Jeanie and his sons Jack and Emmett. He is a dedicated and un-ironic fan of Elvis Presley.

I would definitely recommend this with one big caveat. Just like Court of Owls and Zero Year, DC has broken up the Superheavy story into two separate volumes. What you're getting here is an introduction to the new Batman and a glimpse at the villain he'll be facing off against. Unfortunately, this volume doesn't really have the narrative heft on its own that the first parts of the previously mentioned stories did. If you can't wait to read what's next in Snyder's story, go ahead and pick this up. You'll enjoy it just like I did. For those who can wait, I'd recommend holding off until Volume 9 comes out and picking them up together so you can have the entire story at once.

Superheavy is an awesome story arc that ends up being a breath of fresh air. I wasn't sure how I'd feel with someone else taking up the mantle of batman, but I very much enjoyed Gordon as the Bat and wanted more! Definitely pick this volume up with Vol.9, which is the conclusion of this story arc.

A great and interesting new take on batman and what he means to Gotham city. There's also a new and scary villain he has to take down. I can't wait to read the conclusion to this storyline.
