网友对How to Brew: Everything You Need to Know to Brew Beer Right for the First Time的评论
The title of this books says it all!
After a couple of years of researching the subject of home brewing I've collected several very informative books on the subject. When it comes to information pertaining to actually brewing beer at home this is my absolute favorite book on the shelf due to the amount of information jammed into its 338 pages. I've been using this book for just a little over a month now and have full confidence that it will be my go-to reference book for brewing from now on as questions arise on the subject
Palmer covers all the various methods from extract kits to full out all grain brewing. and does it in a way that leaves little, if any, unanswered questions. Palmer does a great job of explaining the processes and the science behind every step of home brewing.
The book does, in many areas, read much like a text book but I don't know another format that would relay such precise information on subjects such as water chemistry, starch conversion, or infusion techniques. Much of the information is WAY more than the average Joe would need to brew beer but the title does say "Everything You Need to Know...." The information is relayed in such a way that I've found it best to take it at face value, and study the minute details on an as-needed basis.
This is my most important reference book for brewing. Possibly the best one written yet. If you're a home brewer, you should own this. It's available for free online, but I like to read in bed and on the go, so I bought a copy for my Kindle anyway. Diagrams and tables are badly reproduced in the Kindle edition, and impractical to use as reference when I need to zoom in on my old Kindle. I go to the free online edition for that. I highly recommend this book for any homebrewer, budding or experienced.
I purchased this book as a father's day gift. It was well received! The book is very informative and even if you've never tried brewing you'll be able to learn enough to give it a shot after reading this book. That being said, there are parts which can get very technical. This can enhance the experience, like in my father's case, but some might find it to be confusing or prefer to skip it altogether. Overall, I'd highly recommend this book. Although I can't vouch for the quality of my father's beer, the book itself presents a lot of good information and is a useful read before you jump headfirst into things.
The way this book is laid out makes perfect sense for beginning brewing and whets your appetite for more complicated beers (for which it should serve as a useful reference still). The first chapter provides enough to answer any questions you have about your first extract brew without any trouble. It lists out easy to follow steps, and right when you think "man, that sounds interesting...wish i knew more" it calls to another chapter with more information. The information is generally useful. Its good, man.
