Textiles from Mexico |
Over 20 such pieces from the British Museumís vast collections have been photographed and explored in detail for this book. They range from a nineteenth-century rebozo, or shawl, made for a wealthy landowner to everyday pieces such as a huipil from Oaxaca. Anyone interested in textiles and design will find a wealth of inspiration in this book, and the detailed photographs will reveal unexpected nuances of pattern-making.
Drawing on her extensive travels in Mexico, Chloe Sayer provides a living context for these varied textiles. Techniques and clothing styles are explained, and brief commentaries highlight the key features that make the designs so eye-catching and uniquely Mexican. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

专业书评 From Booklist
There is no better authority on world textiles than the British Museum. The transformation of that expertise--and the accompanying visuals--can be found inthe latest entry in the Fabric Folios series. The book is formatted this way: first, an introduction to the history, tradition, textiles, and decorative motifs of Mexico; and then100 or so actual all-in-color samples. In Mexico, the talent's in the brilliant cotton weavings and embroideries, from the red and blue dyes featured to the backstrap looms used to piece together rebozos, huipils, quechquemitls, and other exterior articles. All illustrations are well labeled with dimensions and descriptions; a glossary and bibliography wrap up this very accessible introduction to ethnic fabrics. Selected reading and museum accession numbers are appended. Barbara Jacobs
