I have an 11 1/2 year old 6th grader who LOVES cats, loves wars/fighting but HATES reading. :(
I'm the mom who grew up reading and can't imagine my own child hating the one thing I loved growing up!
Sixth grade starts and students are required to do 20 minutes of reading each night. The struggle is real in our house and it comes with a lot of whining.
I went on our library website and found Cat Warriors and hoped that this book would be one my son would enjoy.
What I didn't anticipate was this would be the book series to turn my son into a book lover! My son reads in the car, on the bus to and from school, he reads before bed and he took his book to two holiday parties recently and read quietly while kids were running around playing all around him. He tells me repeatedly how much he loves this book. He now understands why people love to read.
He loved the books so much I bought this series and my 9 year old son is reading it, too. In two days my son is halfway through the second book in the series!
If your child loves cats and loves wars/fighting/battles then this book series will be a winner for him. There are cat clans with cat appropriate names that fight battles in the book. I'm so very thankful for this book series!!
My son loves this series. It is gripping, but it does get more violent than I had expected.
Also, it seems scarily prescient. Spoiler alert: in book 6, when Tigerstar tries to take over all the clans, he gives a speech to all the cats, vowing that it was his task to "restore the Clan and make it great again." He argues that times are tough, and that everyone has to unite behind him to survive. Well, it didn't turn out very well for the cats in the book -- as Tigerstar started to imprison and execute cats who were of mixed blood or born outside the clan.
Let's hope things go better for us. Where is our Firestar?
My nine year old daughter adores these books and has reread each of them several times since her birthday. She's fully immersed in this Warrior Cat universe and I'm enjoying her appreciation for reading. These books feel like an early gateway into other fantasy land stories or series but also manage to be a knock out story line for my kiddo. They're heavy on the epic themes and have some violence and grief but provide an excellent literary medium for my animal obsessed daughter. The movie's supposed to be in the works and as always, I recommend the books for deeper story line but even without the movie I'd be recommending these.
The Warriors Box set came in an excellent package and arrived fast. My niece loves the book set and is already on book three after a few days. She states she never used to like reading and now she is able to read for hours due to picking up this book set. I decided to purchase this set due to the reviews posted on Amazon and it was a great buy!
