书意料之外的小巧 插画很吸引人 内容是一首歌 很好听 可以配着音乐讲给小朋友听
孩子很喜欢,在看时还不停的问这问那,问那个小姑娘在干什么等。
At 2 years old my youngest daughter fell in love with this song (illustrated here in board book form). At 3 1/2 she still loves this book and her 7 year old sister enjoys it too. The illustrations are artistic enough that my older daughter doesn't feel it is too "babyish", and yet are very realistic (to the extent that the baby whale is still somewhat animated) and subdued so that they are soothing for my younger child as well.
It is a simple, catchy tune about a baby beluga whale. The pictures are engaging and my daughter loves this book as much as the song. She flips through the pages and from the illustrations generally knows when to turn the page along with the memorized lyrics that she knows. The words are completely true to the Raffi song.
Several of the illustrations also contain other sea animals (puffin, walrus, etc.) that are fun for us to study the pictures and identify. The only trouble my daughter has is that on pages where there is only one beluga whale in the scene she is either sad for the baby that his mother is not there, or due to a trouble understanding proportions, thinks the baby is missing and the whale is the mother. Perhaps more could have been done to make the baby always visually distinct as such, but then again, she's only 3 :) -- my 7 year old and I both recognize the baby!
The sweetest picture for me and the one my little one especially loves is the night time picture in which the mommy beluga whale is hugging her sleeping baby under her fin. I'm not a marine biologist, but I doubt this is how beluga whales sleep. Nonetheless, it strikes a chord with my co-sleeping toddler and helps to make this a great bedtime book!
The story is cute, matches the song. I do like the illustrations. I bought this for a baby shower from a registry so I was disappointed when the first book came sort of bent, like a torsion force had been applied. Amazing amazon service- I submitted the return request and they sent a new one promptly. Although the new one wasn't as bad, it still had the same problem. This means the book doesn't close nicely. I ordered another book in the first order, and it had a few faint marks on the cover (grabbed by a machine??) but it was overall in great shape, so I can tell this problem is unique to this book and it wasn't just once, hence the review.
You need to know this isn't a storybook meant to stand alone; it's an illustrated book of the lyrics of the song of the same name by children's singer Raffi. The book probably wouldn't hold up on its own; it's meant to be enjoyed as a companion to the lovely, loving children's song.
I purchased this along with the Raffi CD containing the song as a gift for a one-year-old's birthday party. The book is simple but beautiful and the song is one I remember fondly from my childhood. The artwork is beautiful - a little subtler in color and less abstract than Eric Carle but sort of in that same vein. And I love that the book is a board book and will hold up to lots of love from a toddler.
I hope the little birthday boy and his family get years of enjoyment from singing the songs together, long after the book has been put aside as a "baby book" by a growing lad.
This book is cute with pleasant pictures, with each musical phrase on its own page. We've checked the board book version of this book out from the library so many times, that it seemed time to invest in our own copy for my little 4 year old who loves Baby Beluga.
The paper binding isn't as sturdy as the board book, as expected. The pages are quite a bit larger and font is larger than the board book version, which surprised me. As my son is 4, I didn't want to buy more board books. So far the book is holding up well to his love of this timeless classic.
I was stoked to stumble upon this book. This was one of my favorite songs that we'd ever sang at school when I was a little kid. It was so fun and easy to sing and sparked my interest in marine life.
I was 5, then. I have a two year old who loves being read to and singing; so, story + music = WIN!! For her.
This has become one of the regulars in the nightly repertoire. :)
It probably does just fine without being sung.
The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical and fit with each line of the song, and for those who don't know the tune, there's sheet music printed in the back.
