Very well researched or at least highly likely sounding details of life at the two extremes of society in London in the 1500s. Both youths prompt the readers' sympathy for very different reasons but surprisingly for some similar reasons.

Skillfully portrayed by Twain as usual with interesting situations logically developed, conversations in dialect, carefully described environments.

Some doubt on total accuracy based on the sensibilities in the writer's era but a minor omission if at all.

My 8th grade son needed The Prince and The Pauper for school, and gave me about an hour's notice before bedtime. This was a great way to download the whole book instantly. Note that each part only contains a couple of chapters, so you'll have to search for all 9 parts in order to have the entire book.

This is Mark Twain's classic story of the prince who meets a common boy of the same age who looks just like the prince. On a lark, the boys decided to change clothes, and then change places for a while. Of course, the change in station continues for some time; this story is about how each boy deals with being the other. Written with Mark Twain's typical sly humor, it's a good lesson about the value of education. After my son read it, I read this book for the first time in decades, and enjoyed it again. It's a book worth buying, but to be able to get it for free on a moment's notice is really awesome!

The book is fine, but this particular free offering is not usable. It was constantly skipping pages or sections of pages when I tried to move forward on my Kindle. Also, it isn't all there. I'm not sure, but I think there are three or four parts that you have to download. Spend the 99 cents on something that will work.

Why don't our schools make certain that we read ALL these great classics that tend to make us be better people? Isn't there a list somewhere? The books that are "required" reading in junior high and high school introduce material that introduces adult material to young minds that they don't need to ponder till much later, if at all.
