Campbell, the founding editor of Interweave's Beadwork magazine, is no stranger to writing books on the topic, with 40 titles under no-doubt-beaded belt. Here she mixes the magic of Hollywood with the shine of Swarovski crystals as she gives her interpretation of 26 classic pieces. Beginning with a fascinating introduction about Daniel Swarvoski's influence on couture, the book is then divided by Hollywood's leading ladies. A photo of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, or Elizabeth Taylor faces a crisp, full-page picture of earrings, a bracelet, or necklace that replicates the jewelry the star is wearing. The next several pages supply instructions, both written and illustrated, for making the piece. Some, like the earrings resembling those Vivian Leigh wore in a theatrical performance of Antony and Cleopatra, or Natalie Wood's gem-studded leather cuff, are truly fabulous, but even the less-sophisticated pieces should intrigue beaders. A very glam craft book. - Booklist, December 15, 2010

非常非常喜欢的一本书,看到它真令我体会到“梦里寻她千百度,蓦然回首,那人却在灯火阑珊处”的意境。
如果你喜欢施华洛世奇的元素水晶,那么你定然也会喜欢此书
Pros:
Features 26 projects, and GLAMOROUS is right! Be prepared for oooo's and aaah's!
You get a little history and nostalgia with your projects! Features just as many great photos of actresses with snippets about them and whatever old movie they're shown in. It got an "Aww[...]" out of me because Tony Curtis recently passed away, and he's on pg 66 with Natalie Wood (sporting a gorgeous bracelet that inspired the project) in an image from The Great Race - a favorite movie of mine growing up. :)
You get to see the designer's inspiration AND the finished project. I really liked seeing the original piece the actress wore in the left-hand page photo, then looking at the beaded project piece on the right-hand page photo. Very cool too see the transition from the designer's interpretation and creation of the piece like that!
The instructions seem thorough enough for a determined amateur, more than enough if you have some experience with beadweaving.
Cons:
The price tag to make most of these projects is pretty staggering if you buy the listed supplies. You could substitute away from the crystal and go with glass and stone to make it less expensive and over-the-top... but that wasn't the point of the book now was it?! ;-)
As a previously noted, there's something wrong with the swarovski color chart!! A disservice bordering on sabotage to readers who would place an expensive order expecting one color, and end up recieving something else. Verify your colors online before ordering if you don't have them memorized.
Wearability - it's all gorgeous, but not for everyday wear unless you don't mind funny looks...
Overrall:
I won't refer to it often or make many of these projects, but I am glad I bought it! I would recommend it as a collector's item to experienced beaders or to a bridal party looking to go custom and glamorous for the wedding.
Don't pass up this book! Honestly! You will be sorry! I'm a relatively "new" bead weaver, fairly good with needle and thread... With that said, the projects in this book are easier than they look! The directions are amazingly easy to follow... although I LOVE Swarovski elements, I can't totally afford them... so, I "watered down" some of the projects with semi-precious stones... perhaps not as "glamorous," but certainly every bit as beautiful in a more "grounded" sort of way. BUT... even more than the eye-popping "reproductions" beautifully detail-photographed, I enjoyed the stories! I never knew Carmen Miranda was born in Portugal and started out entertaining her co-workers in a hat shop in Brazil... Did that catch your attention? Read the history of Daniel Swarovski, pick up your needle and thread, ask which one of those dazzling beauties in your bead collection wants to become the next Haute Couture... move over Coco Chanel, here you come! Have fun!
If you love vintage yet elegant glamour, this is a great book for inspiration and instruction. However, to my note of instruction, some experience is very helpful (probably not the best book for a beginner to start with). The book shows a variety of styles worn by some of the most talented actresses on the red carpet, with a picture of the actual jewelry and then its style made with Swarovski crystals and a variety of different beads...very beautiful on all accounts. I didn't see any project that wasn't doable and the inspiration of making a project your own by injecting variations is endless. Overall, I love the book and believe it to be worthy of 5 stars.
I love the old black and white films esp and really liked every one of the projects in here. While I will slightly alter a couple of them to make them more everyday--that wasnt the point of this book! No i don't have places to go wearing the kinda WOW that these starlets did but from one item to the next, this will do nothing but strengthen my beading skills. I am looking forward to making 5 of these and having alot of trouble deciding on which one first. Now one important note, the kindle is helping reduce the number of volumes I have at home but it doesn't display as great as the actual paperback. I got that through the library and it is really even better so will definitely be adding this to my beading collection--worth the shelf space.
