A genius ... his is an enduring influence' The Times 'Resonates beyond words' Guardian 'That rare adult who can still think like a child' The New York Times
作者简介Shel Silverstein's very first children's book Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back was published in 1963, and followed the next year by two other books. The first of those, The Giving Tree, is a moving story about the love of a tree for a boy; it took four years before Harper Children's books decided to publish it. Shel returned to humour that same year with A Giraffe and a Half. His first collection of poems and drawings, Where the Sidewalk Ends, appeared in 1974, and his second, A Light in the Attic, in 1981. When he was a G.I. in Japan and Korea in the 1950, he learned to play the guitar and to write songs, including 'A Boy Named Sue' for Johnny Cash. In 1984, Silverstein won a Grammy Award for Best Children's Album for Where the Sidewalk Ends - 'recited, sung and shouted' by the author. He was also an accomplished playwright, including the 1981 hit, 'The Lady or the Tiger Show.' The last book to be published before he died in 1999, was Falling Up (1996).

Shel Silverstein books are my favorite! I loved reading them as a child. I was very happy to find them on Amazon for such a low price. I love the collection of poems in A Light in the Attic. I was very happy to find other Shel Silverstein books for a low price on this website as well. I am very glad I bought these books. Shel Silverstein wrote many fantastic poems and I can not wait to share them with my future children.
I ordered this book for my daughter for Christmas. She is getting to the age where she really enjoys sitting down with a book and reading. This book isn't too hard for a 1st grader to read with a little assistance. It is a book of rhymes and poems. Although some of them are quite the tongue twisters and take a few minutes to think about them before you read them. I myself had never heard of this book but my boyfriend had read this book when he was younger and said it was one of his favorite books and he wanted to share that with our daughter.
I purchased this book at full price.
The first copy of this book I ordered came with the cover ripped pretty badly but Amazon is wonderful with their customer service and I had a replacement in two days.
I remember these books from when I was a kid. Checking them out at the library at school. So I wanted another copy. This is one of my favorites of his. I like the good color special edition cover that comes with this.
Highly recommend all of his poem books.
I love this book! My favorite poem in the book is "They've Put a Brassiere on the Camel"; the funniest of them all. The poem is about dressing up a camel in a brassiere. Who would ever do that? The author writes it's more decent this way so that her bumps wouldn't show. He writes that pigs should wear pants and ducks should be dressed because the is wearing a brassiere. This is funny! Animals don't wear clothes!
Every child must have a Shel Silverstein book of poetry on their bookshelf. We started reading these to our daughter when she was 3 - we read some almost every night, and she absolutely loves them. I remember the poems from my childhood - funny, sweet, moving, and now, as an adult, the poems have so much more dimension. Just the perfect book to read with children.
