Hongkong International Terminals noted that relevant contractors earlier agreed to raise workers' salaries by 5% this year and that they would be making HK$21,000 a month, up from HK$17,000 in 1997. Mr. Lee said the contractors aren't willing to negotiate with the union, and are even threatening to fire the striking dock workers if they refuse to go back to work.
