Traditionally speaking, three subjects are included in the education: reading, writing, mathematics. Some people argue that computer skills should be added so that every child can be benefited. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

Enough is enough when it comes to teaching computer systems to children because, after all, the more important skills are reading, writing and mathematics. It is widely accepted that computer skills should be included in modern education to some extent, but the importance of digital proficiency should not be exaggerated to the point of "putting the cart before the horse". Without a doubt, computer is a tremendous tool for gaining knowledge, but children relying too much on the machine for digital solutions are often not so good at creative thinking.
Children should learn about the computer (and along with it, the Internet) so as to face the reality which is increasingly becoming associated with the information technology. It is a known fact that children are in for a world virtually overrun by computers within every facet of daily work and living. This is why people need to start learning computer skills at a younger age to acquire what is called the 'fourth most important skill' in the education--after reading, writing and mathematics. To put it simply, computer skills are vital to today's learners and tomorrow's bread-winners. So, every child can benefit from a school curriculum that includes basic computer lessons in tune with the modern society. Or else, there will be a great disadvantage for those who do not know how to use computers.
Nevertheless, extremely heavy reliance on the computer as a learning too is likely to backfire. On the one hand, children may unconsciously turn into 'mouse potatoes' or 'computer nerds' ; and on the other hand, they may become less creative in thinking on their own. A number of drawbacks are not desirable especially if children today are far from being able to spell words correctly by hand in a traditional way, for instance. Apart from that, it is indeed very difficult for a child to read well on the computer screen. What is more, the mental art of doing the sums is giving way to calculations via the computer. Altogether, educational progress as it is at the expense of creativity is not always good for children.
In conclusion, there are crucial reasons to add the computer lessons to children's learning list, but parents as well as teachers should see to it that the three traditional subjects be always considered as paramount in schooling. On the whole, reading, writing and mathematics can do more to open a variety of windows to activating the young creative minds. Of course, Microsoft Window is certainly not one window too many.
