My son loves books with wholes and loves this song so I bought it, despite a few negative reviews. Agree with reviewers who say pictures are just strange, plus the version of the song is different than the one we know (drum vs thumb, bricks vs sticks) and it only goes to 6. So my son didn't like it and I am disappointed as well. Maybe we are just purists!

After reading (and singing) this book to my grandchildren over and over, I try to get one for all my friends who are new grandparents. It teaches colors, each page is a different bright color. It teaches numbers with many objects to count on each page, but the holes are what attract the little ones most. My advice is to take the CD out and use it alone without the book and sit and cuddle the little one while you read and sing the book. The pages are sturdy and teach the chilren to turn actual pages instead of big pieces or cardboard.

I bought the book to read to my two year old grandson. It is too busy! The pictures don't relate to the text. For instance: This old man he played two. He played nick nack on my shoe. In the picture there is a pirate with one leg a sword and a gun, two puffins, two killer whales and two seagulls. There really isn't a shoe unless you consider the boot on the one legged pirate. The pages get busier and busier as it goes. The picture pages stop at 6 instead of going all the way to ten. On the page with six it had addition problems with cut out circles that fill a whole page the pictures are very small on the opposite page. They have verses 7 through 10 on the back page and all of the pictures to go with it, but all very small. Much to busy for a young child. Perhaps better for a child in Kindergarten or first grade when the addition can be part of the learning.

The book is very cute, however I wish it were a little bigger.

the boy isnt really into it.
