The book is a cute read for the younger set. However, it is NOT at all like the fabulous show on Amazon! A group of us (ages 7 to 70) binge watched the series and have rewatched 3 times. The book makes you think that there was no magic until the last pages. It also does not have the fabulous back story of the grandmother, her two friends and the disappearing boyfriend!

Purchased this book for my granddaughter (second grader) because she had enjoyed the TV series so much. She loved the book too and has had fun making some of the recipes included. While some of the antics of the main characters may seem dumb to adults the kids are able to relate.

I liked how well the author seemed to understand the types of friendships that develop within this age group. I really recommend the series also -- nice change from some of the stuff available for kids.

This book was so much fun for my 9 year old girl and all her friends. I purchased 12 books, my daughter gave them to her friends as gifts, and we started a book club for the young readers. We set a completion date and each girl read at her own pace, culminating with a BOOK CLUB PARTY at our home. We served LOVE BUG JUICE and other fun foods from the listed recipes in the book.
Author Cindy Callaghan had a comprehensive discussion section on her website which assisted the mothers in guiding the book club discussion at the party. It got a group of little girls excited to read, and began to teach them the joy of discussing good books with their friends, sharing viewpoints and talking about character development.
JUST ADD MAGIC was well - written and kept the girls excited to read each coming chapter. The characters are lively and interesting, keeping the reader engaged and eager to know what is going to happen to them next.
The girls are now in the midst of reading LOST IN LONDON, and the 2nd book club party is set for Mid November.

Great book I want to try some of these recipes and potions and the cobbler to keep my very very very very very very annoying brother not noisy

This is a great book. It is perfect for preteens. I bought it for my two nieces, ages 9 and 10 and we are reading it together. When a recipe is given, we go make the recipe together and laugh and talk about how magical it is.
