The Beginner's Guide to Engineering: Mechanical Engineering |
The Beginner's Guide to Engineering series is designed to provide a very simple, non-technical introduction to the fields of engineering for people with no experience in the fields. Each book in the series focuses on introducing the reader to the various concepts in the fields of engineering conceptually rather than mathematically. These books are a great resource for high school students that are considering majoring in one of the engineering fields, or for anyone else that is curious about engineering but has no background in the field. Books in the series: 1. The Beginner's Guide to Engineering: Chemical Engineering 2. The Beginner's Guide to Engineering: Computer Engineering 3. The Beginner's Guide to Engineering: Electrical Engineering 4. The Beginner's Guide to Engineering: Mechanical Engineering

The description of these books lists them as focusing on "introducing the reader to the various concepts in the fields of engineering conceptually rather than mathematically."
The opposite is actually the case. This book is intensely math-heavy and assumes that you have some background in the higher levels of high school mathematics such as advanced algebra or calculus.
This is not a book for high school students who haven't taken advanced mathematics yet and it's certainly not for anyone who isn't looking for a math-focused approach.
As a mechanical engineering major, I have found this book to be very good information. The material is a great review for classes I have taken and I expect the continued information will help me in my continued tenure at school and work.
It's so simple and good for the beginners like me! I really like it NOT like other books they come really complicated! This one is really simple and great you will love it
freaking love this book
This book has an insane amount of errors. There are tons typos in the text but more critically in the actual equations, most commonly missing negative signs and mislabelled units. Or it might reference a black and white graph and say this "in the illustration, the force is shown in red". So the book is indeed written to be fairly easy to navigate through but the editing and checking was so poor it is actually distracting and at times causes confusion.
