My kid is 4th grade and this book I find so helpful in preparation for the tests.
It has short and sweet test, just intended for weekly / daily practice. It doesn't take that long to finish a test.
Tests contain short stories with multiple questions (like 4-5 stories per test) plus Vocabulary tests of SYNONIMS and ANTONYMS!
Answer keys on the back makes it so helpful to correct the errors made after the test is taken.

This book has a lot of short reading passages with about 3 questions each. It also has synonym and antonym vocabulary pages. I will be using the short passages as a morning warm-up in my classroom, but these can also be used at home. A parent can purchase this book, and have their child do one or two a night for homework to help them with reading comprehension. The questions for the passages range from inferencing to vocabulary. These will be a great help for any fourth grade student.
My daughter used this book to prepare over the summer last summer before entering 4th grade, and it was of great value. The stories are very interesting, of various types, and the answer key at the back can be torn out by parent in order to keep "eyes only on the stories and tests".
She was not rusty when beginning school, and this would also be great for the home-schooled. I have been happy with all of these series.
Very nice book. Easy to use and very inexpensive way to check on your child's reading comprehension level. My son averaged about 98% (if you were to grade the lessons) overall for the whole book at age 10 near the end of his fourth grade year. He loves to read, so I would say this book is listed for the correct grade level. The book has basic questions on short paragraphs, as well as synonyms and antonyms.
I'm using this book primarily to test my child's comprehension. It also tests the ability to draw inferences and find the main idea of a passage. It has been a great tool to help me find out what my child's strengths and weaknesses are. This would be a good to use to prepare for reading standardized testing.
