"Galdone has directed his considerable talent and style to the traditional British ghost story." School Library Journal
作者简介Paul Galdone was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1907 and emigrated to the United States in 1928. After finishing his studies at the Art Student League and the New York School of Industrial Design, Mr. Galdone worked in the art department of a major publishing house. There he was introduced to the process of bookmaking, an activity that was soon to become his lifelong career. Before his death in 1986, Mr. Galdone illustrated almost three hundred books, many of which he himself wrote or retold. He is fondly remembered for his contemporary style, bright earthy humor, and action-filled illustrations, which will continue to delight for generations to come.

When I was in first grade, I read this book in front of my classmates as an assignment. I LOVED this book! I was so excited to get it for my six-year-old son, but when I read it to him, it creeped him out and now he doesn't want anything to do with it. If your son or daughter is more sensitive to spooky or scary stories or images, I wouldn't get this book for them. I hadn't thought my son would be so sensitive to it, but as it turns out, he is. Oh well. I still truly enjoy this story and I think many other children still do and will. The illustrations are great and the story leaves off so that the children can contemplate what happens afterward. It inspires imagination and creativity while being educational and reader friendly.
Story line was not what I expected. More suited for older children. Love the graphics/artwork.
I actually got this book for my mother who remembered from when she was a child she was so happy I found it. Sometimes you can buy smiles.
I read this book to my granddaughter when she was a child. I bought it as her gift so she could one day read it to her children. Great book.
Years ago "Childcraft" had a version that substituted the word "hen" for the word "bone". My siblings and I grew up with that version. Both versions have the ability to build tense expectation, in a good way, in young children. It is one of the things that makes these stories classics.
