文摘Who Was
Genghis Khan?
The year was 1179. A teenager named Temujin slept soundly in his felt-walled tent alongside his wife, Borte.
The round tent, called a ger, stood alone at the edge of the steppe—a region of vast, flat grasslands in Mongolia. Temujin and Borte shared this ger with family and friends. Together, they formed a small clan of thirteen people.
Most clans lived close together, forming communities of thousands called tribes. But Temujin’s clan lived alone and isolated.
An old woman was awakened by vibrations in the ground.
Hoofbeats. Coming closer.
She screamed for everyone to wake up. Someone was coming!
Three hundred men on horseback from the Merkid tribe raced toward Temujin’s ger. Eighteen years earlier, Temujin’s father—a man named Yesugei—had kidnapped his mother from her Merkid husband. Now Temujin was grown, with a wife of his own. The Merkid wanted revenge.

Yeah, be careful of this book. There are a few disturbing scenes. Lots of beheadings. Nasty stuff done with the heads, also.
I keep buying these books on my son's requests. He is 10 and he's been reading them for over 3 years. The subject is not always covered but the books are good starters for young readers to look for more information if they need it. Recommended.
Kids who don't want to try non-fiction because they think it's boring will really be surprised to find that real amazing people are interesting to learn about. This series is a great way to get your non-fiction haters to become interested and want to learn more. My young readers love telling me about these true heroes!
These are the best nonfiction books for 3rd through 6th graders for AR. As a teacher and a parent, these are always my first recommendation to meet their AR goal. We require 3 nonfiction books per 9 weeks and these can be read in just a few days. They are informative and the kids overwhelmingly enjoy them.
Love these books as they are a perfect introduction for kids to these historical figures. My daughter loved Ghenghis Khan. I highly reccomend it. Whoemver wants to read only about inventors and atheletes should not be buying these books. Ghengis was a man of his time. I think it was very well presented.
