PreSchool-Grade 1—Parr's smiley-faced people are back in this ode to unconditional love. The die-cut cover, revealing a child with arms open wide framed in a heart, sets a cheery tone. Each spread describes a situation and its opposite, such as "I love you when you are scared. I love you when you are brave." As in his previous books, the author/illustrator employs a palette of primary colors outlined in black for his depictions of diverse people and objects. As an early childhood teacher, I have many Todd Parr books in my classroom collection. They are versatile, colorful, non-judgmental, and child-friendly while encompassing big topics and issues. It's only natural as my husband and I await the birth of our twin sons, that I should want to begin an at-home library collection complete with Todd Parr works. This particular book was purchased as a set of first Father's Day books to my husband (who is a children's librarian) in hopes that he and the boys will be able to read and share it together. It's message is a big one for unconditional love, but per usual Todd Parr, it's conveyed with bright and simple illustrations and very straightforward language.
Cute book, the colors and animation really grab the kiddos attention. This book send a good message that you love them even when things aren't always "Perfect"
A lovely book to read to your young son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter. Who doesn't love their little one? And reading this to them will make you feel good even if they are still too young to understand the words you are saying. They'll know the meaning because you're spending time with them and making them feel loved until they do understand what you're reading.
The I Love You Book is another in a wonderful series of books for young children by Todd Parr. It is colorful and children are likely to benefit from the clear presentation of the theme. Parents and pre-school teachers can use this book to read to children and enhance their enjoyment of reading.
We have Todd Parr's "The Feelings Book" and my daughter loves it. She's been enthralled with the bold pictures since she was 6 months old. The "I Love You Book" also has great illustrations and a positive message for kids. I gave this as a gift. I hope my friend's little girl likes it as much as my daughter likes her book.
