While walking through the forest, Hank finds an eggall aloneon the forest ground. After spotting its home high up in a tree, he diligently tries to find a way to return it to its nest. First, he finds a tree stumpbut its too short. Next, he builds a ladder, but its not tall enough. Dusk begins to fall, and he takes the egg home for safekeeping overnight. The next daydetermined not to give upHank uses his ingenuity to come up with the perfect solution to see the egg safely reach home, and is joyfully rewarded with newfound forest friends!

An adorable, heartwarming story told entirely in pictures, this remarkable book will inspire pre-readers to develop their own imaginations and vocabularies.
Imagine being asked to "read me a story" and sharing with your toddler one that has no words. That's the great gift of "Hank Finds An Egg." This gently told tale allows youngsters to add their own thoughts and insights to the lovingly-photographed illustrations that relate the efforts of a kindly, industrious bear to return an egg to its nest.
My older son (who loves sharing knowledge) enjoys looking at this book with his little brother, too.
An excellent addition to any pre-schoolers' library.
What a marvelous thing this is! It's obvious Ms. Dudley painstakingly created each page from handmade pieces of this and that - felt, paper, and the like. After you "read" the story (there are no words) and wipe that tear from your eye (yup, it's a sweet sweet story that's sure to pull your heartstrings), you'll go back and try to figure out how she did it. How DID she make the little birds' wings look like they're moving? Truly, a tour de force and clearly a labor of love. It's the first I've seen of anything like this, and I want to see more! That Hank is adorable. I'd like to see him in more adventures down the road. Kudos to the author/artist. She's created a classic here.
This is a great "story" with beautiful pictures. It's true that there are no words that tell the story, but that is part of this book's appeal. It lets the child read the pictures and tell the story--and it is a great story: working hard to help others even if it may inconvenience us. I'm looking forward to "reading" this with my grandchildren.
Update: We gave this book to our three-year-old grandson for Christmas and it was a hit. We read it to him several times and then he "read" it to himself. I look forward to more from this author/artist.

This excellent book captures a fun and hope-filled feel, with only pictures. That is an accomplishment not many books pull off. Also, Rebecca has done amazing work with making the environment look real and natural, with her making sure that nothing is too symmetrical, like actual nature. Plus, she manages showing Hank's expressions, even though he has hardly any facial features!
This book is SO DARLING I can't even handle it!!!! My sisters and I sounded like Soprano goats; every new page came with all 4 us squealing "AAAWWWWWWWW!!!!" That's something I usually pride myself on NOT doing, but I couldn't help it. :)
For those who say they don't like wordless picture books, try this: Tell your child that this book is special, because HE/SHE gets to tell the story! The story is pretty clear; they'll be able to tell it easily. You can just relax and enjoy the darling illustrations. :)
