The stories chosen for this collection of Shakespeare were chosen very well. There are six illustrated plays: Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and Hamlet. There is then a section on the life and times of Shakespeare. The stories stay true to the originals and there are even some lines that are pulled straight from the originals sprinkled throughout the re-written plays.
The illustrations are beautiful and I can't wait to share this book with my children. The book came from England and arrived much faster than I expected and in perfect condition.
We love, love, love this book! My nine year old can't read it enough! The illustrations are beautiful. The book is beautiful in the materials, the way it is constructed, and everything about it. The plays are explained well and easy to follow if your child has any want to learn about Shakespeare's stories. It is a good reference for me as an adult too to remember who is who in the plays.
My 4 year old twins are really enjoying Shakespeare! It's not written on their level (more for age 6-7 and up) but with some clarification and guided questions (disclosure: I'm a teacher) they're getting it, enjoying it, and choosing these stories at bedtime.
I gave this as a gift for my nine year-old niece. The whole family enjoyed it, but most of all the intended recipient! Compelling summaries, attractive illustrations, all in all, a fun introduction to Shakespeare.
