I purchased all four sets of the DK "My First Touch & Feel Picture Cards" for my 17 month old and this one is my least favorite. It does not have as many cards you can "feel" as the other sets. The "Things that Go" set also does not have many cards you can "feel" something on. My favorite is the "First Words" set. It has large pictures with a lot of touch and feel. My son's favorite card in this set is a piece of toast with sticky jelly. His face is priceless when he touches it!
I really love these cards because they can grow with your kids. Right now, my son loves to look and feel the pictures on the cards and identify what is on each card. As he grows, we can incorporate the questions/activities on the back of each card and learn the Spanish and French translations. They really are an all-in-one learning activity you can do with your kids.
A great addition for any toddler's toy box/library. My toddler loves going through them and has really helped his vocabulary! It's a really great idea- something different than just books, but not boring like flash cards.
Suggestions for Creator:
-To help encourage owners to own all DK box cards, please do not include duplicates among sets. I think I have 3 tractors, which is a big bummer and waste of learning opportunities. Some additional items that could have been included in the THINGS THAT GO set: garbage truck, skateboard, razor scooter, taxi cab, etc.
- Additional themes for box cards: House Items (vacuum, refrigerator, television, couch, bed, etc.)
My 20 month old LOVES these cards! They aren't very thick and can be bent so watch your little one with them. Each card has a texture to feel. Just a note- if you buy all of the different sets you will find some words are repeated. There are about 3 or 4 different tractor cards all together as well as a couple of other duplicated words. NONE of the duplicated words have the same picture though, so that is a plus! These cards are very engaging and my son loves working with them. Each card does have some questions on the back and each pack has a card that includes some ideas or tips on using the cards. If they make more sets, I will definitely buy them!
I have a bunch of these sets of flashcards already for my toddler. I purchased the animal cards and household objects cards when he was about 9 months old and started doing them with him a few times a week. He absolutely loves them! At 17 months old, he will get these cards out and just spread them all over the floor around him and play with them. We like to play games where I ask for a certain card and he tries to find it and give it to me. I do these number cards with him at breakfast and try to get him to point to all the objects and count with me. He isn't talking much yet, but I know the exposure is great for him. These are very sturdy cards and are not easily bent. I definitely will be buying more of them!
We have all of DK flash cards for toddlers. All sets that they ever made as both of our twins are obsessed with these. They spend most of their play time going through those, they know all 100+ words already from these cards and possibilities are endless. My kids started it when they were 18m and now when they are 22months they are mastering each and every word in these packs. So far it was probably the best value for money we spent on kids toys/educational items. Worth every dollar. I wouldnt rate any of these packs over the other. They all contain different cards so if you want to build you kids' vocabilary you should try to get them all. The best thing about it aside from great quality of the card itself being very firm and shiny and colorful for little hands the fact that all objects on those cards have textured pieces so if it is an animal it would have a fur and so on. Kids love both touching and naming every word on those cards. They got to the point where they know which word belongs to which set of cards. Happy learning to all parents and toddlers - these cards are great!
