This book is for someone in the military working with MWD. It appears to be part of an academic course for handlers. I was looking more for a book to train my dog in some of the techniques used in MWD training, i.e. commands, agility, etc....
I am ex USAF & am aware of the training done for MWD. I was hoping this was a book on that training, not just part of an academic course. Somewhat misleading.Good for someone who has or is going to go through the training. Not for anybody else.

I thought I'd read this first to get the gist of what it takes to train a working dog. It is very informative and in depth on the subject. I am thoroughly enjoying the read and applying some of the lessons to train my rat terrier/lab mix to detect narcotics/ tracking. Heavy attention is given to theory in the beginning, but is well worth it.

I thought the book was concise and well written. I liked the medical info, it was a bonus. I am often out in areas that are not near a veterinarian. On the training end the book could have more detailed information for people like me who don't have any expertise in advanced training. But it is written for people who already have more experience than I do. I enjoyed going over the training parts, even if I will never use them. The only one of my dogs with the personality for work like this is 13 inches tall and 27 lbs!

This is an outstanding and knowledgable asset to have for those who keep their pets active every day or every other day, rather than let the poor animal just go on a walk or a traditional trip to the park. That's like a nursing home but for dogs. Teaches how to properly examin your dog and read signs to better understand behavior and health status.

Great book for thoses wanting more insight into training dogs to work. As a Search and Rescue volunteer and dog handler I am always looking to improve my trainign skils and my Dogs ability. This book has alot of very good information.
