Leslie Patricelli lives in Seattle, Washington, with her husband, their two children, and two kitties. She sketched out her first children’s book, YUMMY YUCKY, when her then one-year-old son was putting everything in his mouth. "After hearing myself say ‘yucky!’ or ‘yummy!’ for months on end, this book seemed to write itself," she says. "Talking to and watching my young children all day gave me a voice and inspiration for these books. I write down what I say to them and what they say to me."

Me and my little baby girl love this cute book.I think even though she doesn't really understand all of the contents, she still feels its fun.

In the first few months of reading this book, I thought it was one of Leslie Patricelli's rare misses. But today I heard my two year old reading it out loud and couldn't stop laughing. It is just delightful to hear him whisper "tissues are quiet" before yelling "sneezes are LOUD!"
This book will be so much more fun for you once your child is old enough to read it to you, so consider saving it until your child is a little older and opt for books like "Faster, Faster" or "Higher Higher" for your littler ones.
Not my favorite Patricelli book, bought my daughter likes it which is what counts. I thought she could have done a better job at finding quiet things and loud things that are easy for young ones to recognize. Pretty sure my daughter doesn't know what "thinking" means yet and it is difficult to demonstrate. Regardless, I get really LOUD on the loud pages and quiet on the quiet pages, which she loves. She is getting the idea on the difference between quiet and loud though.
LOVE Leslie Patricelli books. So much so that I have bought about every book amazon has available. Cute simple stories. Easy to read. Baby seems enthralled by the pictures-compared to other books I read her where she prefers to chew on the book. When I read her LP books, she looks at the pages, reaches for the baby, tries to turn the pages.
This is the first Patricelli book I have purchased and I have been really enjoying it thus far. It was a first birthday gift for my baby girl. The illustrations are stunning, the colors leap off the page. The comparisons are fun and creative. Unfortunately, I seem to enjoy it more than the baby. Perhaps in a few months she will appreciate my sound effects and enthusiasm for this book, but at the moment she's more enthralled with sensory books and tabs that open. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase and would consider more by the author.
This was an instant favorite for all of us. That's saying a lot considering a 14mo old's interests & a parent who reads multiple times a day, some times the same book 10 times or more!!
One thing I love is that there are so many pages!! It's a bummer when you finally get your wiggle-worm to focus a little attention & then the last page arrives in a matter of moments. The 'spell' is broken and the constant motion/whining/clinging etc starts right back up.
The colors are bold, nothing is too busy, the illustrations are great for early word/object lessons, and the concept of 'loud' & 'quiet' while reading & giggling is a lot of fun to play off of.
I'll be getting more from this series & definitely a great gift to give!!
