内容简介 Virology is a very exciting and fast-paced field with many challenging issues. Using a balanced approach, combining the molecular, clinical and historical aspects of virology, Understanding Viruses is the ideal text for the modern undergraduate virology course. With a full-color design and rich pedagogy, the text provides a strong, comprehensive introduction to human viral diseases. Additional chapters on viral diseases of animals; the history of clinical trials, gene therapy, and xenotransplantation; prions and viroids; plant viruses; and bacteriophages add to the coverage. Chapters discussing specific viral diseases weave in an epidemiological and global perspective, and include treatment and prevention information. Contemporary case studies, Refresher boxes, and Virus Files engage students in the learning process. With a wealth of student and instructor support tools, Understanding Viruses is an accessible, exciting, and engaging text for your undergraduate Virology courses. 编辑推荐 Review The many free line drawings and photographic illustrations are particularly invaluable in making this book more student friendly. Students often have difficulties in understanding complex aspects of molecular immunology & virology. this comprehensive but very friendly textbook makes many complex aspects of this knowledge more accessible to students and academics alike. I found this to be an interesting book which is well presented and illustrated. It gets away from the very systematic approaches of other virology texts and raises interesting contemporary issues in virology. I have also passed it to some of my students and it got a high approval rating from them --Prof G E Blair, Inst. Molecular & Cellular Biology, University of Leeds
