  TWE Topic:

  >People remember special gifts or presents that they have received. Why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

  Example Essay:

People remember special gifts that they have received from persons very special to them and what is better remembered is not only the gift itself but also the giver of the gift. Most gifts are given to show friendship and goodwill and, above all, love. In strict terms of the intentions and occasions, to give is to love because people can give without loving but cannot love without giving.

Independent of the price of a certain gift, the intention behind that gift ought to be remembered. Often the excellence of a gift lies as much in its appropriateness as its face value. Almost as often, the manner of giving may be worth more than the gift when it is done as a privilege rather than a duty. So, in appreciation of the intention behind, it is fitting not to forget both the giver and the gift. That is to say, worthy of remembrance is the concern associated with good intentions embodied in both love and generosity.

Because occasions matter, different kinds of gifts can be special in different ways to different persons. For example, children are given gifts on birthday, Children's Day and Christmas. Likewise, parents receive gifts on Father's Day or Mother's Day, and lovers exchange romantic symbols of love on Valentine's Day. Particularly unforgettable are such important gifts as rings on weddings since always a lover values the gift of the lover as well as the love of the giver. On other occasions, gifts can be as common and beautiful as flowers for debuts, graduations, inaugurations, retirements hospitalizations, and sadly, funerals.

On the whole, the most memorable gifts are colored in love of very special kinds shown on special occasions with special intentions. In addition to whatever kind of love of the giver, special gifts generally contribute to social cohesion and solidarity. It goes without saying that both the special gift and the special giver had better be remembered. (Essay created by Jeenn Lee Hsieh ielts360toefl@hotmail.com )
