I'm giving 5 stars because it's an adorable book with lots to look at on each page, and a pretty cute story. However, be warned that it may be too advanced for the board book aged child. My son is 16 months, and there are too many words on each page to keep his interest. Right now, he wants to identify objects, either by pointing to the pictures for me to tell him what it is, or by me asking him "where is the apple" and then having him point to the correct object. He hasn't sat through this book yet. He gets up after the second page or so and brings me a different book that he can identify objects/shapes/colors in.
It's not a bad book by any means, it just doesn't serve my 16 month old's interest right now. I hope that he gets back into the "story" aspect of reading soon, because I think this book is great.
What a fun story to teach children about "go", "stop", working together, problem solving and much more. Boys and girls loved it, asking for it repeatedly, and they enjoyed pointing out different aspects of the rich illustrations. The characterizations of the vehicles and more complex adverbs showed up in conversations long after the book was returned to the shelf. A big hit!
My son just turned three and this book makes him beyond happy. It is simple enough that he can read it himself while still building his vocabulary. He runs around yelling, "Ugh, get off of me," expecting me to return with, "Sorry, too much go!" It has also prompted him to analyze what different symbols and lights mean. Too bad I don't always know! It also encourages him to figure out what is too little, too much, and just enough. In any event, this is a ton of fun.
My two-year-old daughter enjoyed repeating "Go, Go, Go, Stop!" while reading this book. While the pictures aren't Caldecott-award-winning, they are quaint and cute. The photos of the texture of concrete was enough for me to order this for a two-year-old whose dad drives a cement truck - a fun book for them to read together.
