Anatole |
Anatole is a most honorable mouse. When he realizes that humans are upset by mice sampling their leftovers, he is shocked! He must provide for his beloved family--but he is determined to find a way to earn his supper. And so he heads for the tasting room at the Duvall Cheese Factory. On each cheese, he leaves a small note--"good," "not so good," "needs orange peel"--and signs his name. When workers at the Duvall factory find his notes in the morning, they are perplexed--but they realize that this mysterious Anatole has an exceptional palate and take his advice. Soon Duvall is making the best cheese in all of Paris! They would like to give Anatole a reward--if only they could find him...

Anatole is a mouse who goes into the human world at night to find food for his family. One night he overhears what humans think about mice and decides he will help instead of being a freeloader. He goes to the cheese factory and rates their cheeses, leaving notes on how to improve them. The cheese factory increases its sales. Anatole remains anonymous.
I enjoyed this story. It is fun. I like Anatole's solution and his comments on the cheese. I think the Disney movie, Ratatouille, is somewhat based on this book. The kids will enjoy it
I read this book to my son many years ago; he loved it (I did, also)! He is now a grandfather. Just recently, I found this book available on Kindle and downloaded it. I read it to a second-grade class - and they loved it! It is a very good book!
We love Anatole! A smart and honorable mouse finds a way to make an honest living by becoming a secret cheese expert who leaves cheese flavor notes in a French cheese factory. PA Hausfrau says: "Vive la France! Vive Anatole!" I had this book as a child and now I buy it for other children.
We got this book from the library and my kids loved it so much we decided to buy it.
Now we are spending 2 months in France and they have tasted all of the same cheese as Anatole:)
Super fun and sweet book.
A colleague turned me on to this cheese and I absolutely love this book! I work in the cheese industry and now have this as my standing gift anytime any one is having a baby. Such an adorable story with great real lessons in it. So charming! And the little kids that I have read it to love it! - Juhl
