Quiet Influence: The Introvert's Guide to Making a Difference

Introverts Do It Quietly Introverts may feel powerless in a world where extroverts seem to rule, but there's more than one way to have some sway. Jennifer Kahnweiler proves introverts can be highly effective influencers when, instead of trying to act like extroverts, they use their natural strengths to make a difference. Kahnweiler identifies six unique strengths of introverts and includes a Quiet Influence Quotient (QIQ) quiz to measure how well you're using these six strengths now. Then, through questions, tools, exercises, and powerful real-world examples, you will increase your mastery of these strengths.

Now is the time for the quiet introvert to shine. Best-selling author Kahnweiler (The Introverted Leader: Building on Your Quiet Strength) contends that introverts should stop trying to be extroverted and make the most of their quiet strengths. Her purpose is to help introverts recognize, develop, and highlight their reserved natures while advising extroverts on how to adopt more of these traits. A quiz determines a Quiet Influence Quotient by assessing the use of six strengths: taking quiet time, prepara-tion, writing, engaged listening, focused conversation, and thoughtful use of social media. Kahnweiler provides tips and sug-gests next steps for using these strengths. The book s layout is organized for quick reference or in-depth study. VERDICT With the help of Kahnweiler s ideas, introverts can start exerting a quiet influence in the workplace and beyond. Extroverts might want to read this to anticipate what is coming. There are a quite a number of books out there on introverts but I believe you will be hard pressed to find a better one than this. The author shows us how to turn introversion into a strength through examples and stories of how introverts have managed to turn their unique abilities into strengths. She also ends her chapters with a "Your Next Steps" section which gives tips and ideas for further increasing introvert's influence in those particular areas It also provides introverts with reasons to be optimistic about the future by delving into how they can use their writing skills to good use in the increasingly influential world of social media.

The author takes a well balanced view by pointing out areas that introverts can go overboard with their strengths, thereby decreasing their effectiveness.

Overall a smooth flowing book, packed with insights tips and information.

For an extrovert (which I found surprising) the author sure has a solid grasp on the inner trappings of the introverts's world.

Dr. Kahnweiler added clarity and detail to how Introverts exercise quiet but strong influence in organizations and life. The tools to bring even more influence are laid out.

She is exactly correct on how we Introverts listen better, process information, and by what means we decide to share our thoughts to propel action or make decisions.

This book exceeded my expectations and is the best one I have read about Introverts at work.

I have known Jennifer for several years and have both of her books. Before I met Jennifer, I had no clue about introverts. And now I see that all of my years of managing sales teams, I was most likely running roughshod over the introverts and not getting their powerful impact on my teams! Ouch! And now that I do sales training, I realize it is even more important as an extrovert to understand and appreciate the Quiet Influence of introverts. Thanks to know Jennifer and her two books, I do see the world a bit more through the eyes of introverts. I am sure all of the introverts in my sales training classes appreciate it, and I know it has made me a better speaker and trainer. Thanks Jennifer, can't wait for your next book!

I found this book thought provoking in its practical approach to influencing in a way that most fits you best. I am not sure others would see me as quiet, but I can see myself using some of the tips on engaged listening and effective writing to influence. I believe this would be a good read, no.matter what your personality type. It may explain yourself better or that colleague you work with. I can see how this can help me and how I might use it to help those around me influence better too.
