Jancis Robinson has out-done herself here. This book is like a plot outline of a play... it gives you just enough to let you know what to expect. It was never intended to be the last word in wine books, but it beats most of the ones I have read on giving the basics of whatever the topic is. It is a great book for giving "thumbnail" introductions to grapes, regions, wine rules, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.

A very concise and interesting start for wine beginners. This woman has been successfully writing wine books for a long time and is well respected and honored. She is a British Icon.

Short easy reading with some handy tips. The wine region section is weak, it has no maps and devolves into lists of names.

This is a great little book! It provides you with the essentials even if you know a lot or a little. And if you drink a glass of wine while you read it, you'll not only feel smarter but you will be smarter!

I ordered four of these little books as Christmas presents for fellow wine lovers. It's perhaps more designed for people without quite as much "experience" as we have, but it is also a very readable, practical guide. I recommend it for all but the most knowledgeable wine lovers.
