Kay Thompson (1909-1998) was a singer, dancer, vocal arranger, and coach of many MGM musicals in the 1940s.
The Eloise character grew out of the voice of a precocious six-year-old that Miss Thompson put on to amuse her friends. Collaborating with Hilary Knight on what was an immediate bestseller, Kay Thompson became a literary sensation when Eloise was published in 1955. The book has sold more than two million copies to date. Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight created four more Eloise books, Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmas, Eloise in Moscow, and Eloise Takes a Bawth.^Hilary Knight, son of artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, was educated at the Art Students League, where he studied with Reginald Marsh. Besides the Eloise books, Hilary Knight has illustrated more than fifty books for children, six of which he wrote himself.
He lives and works in New York City, not far from The Plaza Hotel.

My daughter read through all the Eloise Level 1 series of readers a month ago, and we revisited them recently because she told me she missed stories about Eloise! Well, the actual collection of Eloise stories (not the early readers) are still beyond my five-and-a-half year old's reading ability, but these make for great entertainment and revision!
In "Eloise Skates", Nanny takes Eloise to skate at the ice rink. The story captures Eloise's fun-loving nature and the illustrations enhance the text. Young children who love Eloise and her adventures will adore this series of early readers.
It may be a way to introduce kids to Eloise, but I much prefer the original, authentic books. These (easy to read) books are good for younger kids, or kids who haven't become book lovers. One of my grandchildren saw the Eloise at Christmas movie and that made him interested in this and it's simple enough that he is starting to read some words. He's 4 and also likes the big Eloise Christmas book, but it was the movie that got him interested. Before the movie, the number of pages in the big book was daunting to him.

Young children who love Eloise and her adventures will adore this series of early readers.
My grandaughter loved all of the Eloise books I ordered. She is a big fan and it is difficult to find the books in our local stores. I even purchased the doll from Amazon. The price was great, and she just loves her. They had brunch at the Plaza together to celebrate her 5th birthday. The books and the doll made her birthday extra special. Thank you,
