The Quarter-Life Breakthrough: Invent Your Own Path, Find Meaningful Work, and Build a Life That Matters

How do you actually find meaning in the workplace? How do you find work that makes your heart sing, creates impact, and pays your rent?

After realizing that his well-paying, prestigious job was actually making him miserable, Adam "Smiley" Poswolsky started asking these big questions. The Quarter-Life Breakthrough provides fresh, honest, counterintuitive, and inspiring career advice for anyone stuck in a quarter-life crisis (or third-life crisis), trying to figure out what to do with your life. Smiley shares the stories of many twenty- and thirty-somethings who are discovering how to work with purpose (and still pay the bills).

Brimming with practical exercises and advice, this book is essential reading for millennial career changers and anyone passionate about getting unstuck, pursuing work that matters, and changing the world.

From the Trade Paperback edition.

As someone going through her own quarter-life crisis, Adam Smiley Poswolsky's book was a great reminder that:
A) I'm not alone
B) Others have gone through this and are successful
C) Even if I choose my passion over $$, I can still be okay.

Smiley's book is relatable (painfully suffering through singles yoga anyone?!), funny, and approachable (no shaming!).

This is a great gift for anyone in their mid 20's, new college graduates, current college students, parents of those in their quarter-life crisis who may not understand what their kids are going through, and anyone going through any life change.

Is it just me or have a lot of us found ourselves having a similar set of conversations with friends:
Is this where I'm supposed to be?
I feel like I should be doing something more with my job, with my life.
What if I never find my calling?
Is this THE job?
I need to find my purpose.
Is this really it?

This book basically fell into my lap during a time when those questions were all I could think about - and it was exactly what I needed.

Smiley does a great job balancing pep talk and real talk (his ability to use humor, humility, and pragmatics is refreshing). I started off by jotting down some good quotes and tips, but by the end of the book, I found myself with 15+ screenshots of the book. I ended up buying the paper version as well so I could highlight it. This is as much a workbook as it is a manifesto, so I'd recommend buying a hard copy so you can mark it up! One of my favorite things about the book is the number of anecdotes he includes, as well as tangible action items and exercises / worksheets. I finished the book feeling more confident about my future, but more importantly, I'm excited to discover my purpose!

Best-selling author and acclaimed speaker Adam Smiley Poswolsky's latest effort is about as tight of an effort in non-BS self-help as you will find. With true, real and relatably inspirational stories of people chasing their dreams accompanied by super helpful introspection exercises and some hilarious personal anecdotes of both failure and success as only Smiley can do. Pick this book up, get inspired and entertained, and take your life more seriously but yourself less. In terms of style and brevity is minimalist perfection in writing.

We would rather die than change. It's terrifying. Luckily, there are people like Smiley, who changed and lived to tell about it. Also lucky is that Smiley decided to write a book about it. Here's a self-help book that won't overwhelm, that won't shame, and that won't make you feel like you're not enough. Smiley shares his own relatable experiences, and offers advice that works. Other books in this genre try to pretend there's an easy fix, but Smiley never does you that discourtesy. His advice is like that of a good friend: compassionately pragmatic, and appealingly actionable. I can honestly say that this book helped me make the changes I wanted and needed to make.
If reading is the experience of being known, then reading "The Quarter-Life Break-Through" is the best kind of experience. I cannot recommend this book enough, especially if you're doing the hard and scary work of changing your life.

Loved it! I predict this book will become an anthem for the Millennial generation. It is a must read for anyone who believes in finding meaningful work and doing something positive in the world - while also getting paid and making a great living. Adam strikes an amazing balance between being honest and hilarious which makes it a quick read that I was eager to recommend to friends. Enjoy - and make that quarter-life breakthrough!
