Don't Sweat the Small Stuff--and it's all small stuff |
Got a stress case in your life? Of course you do: "Without question, many of us have mastered the neurotic art of spending much of our lives worrying about a variety of things all at once." Carlson's cheerful book aims to make us stop and smell--if not roses--whatever is sitting in front of our noses. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff... offers 100 meditations designed to make you appreciate being alive, keep your emotions (especially anger and dissatisfaction) in proper perspective, and cherish other people as the unique miracles they are. It's an owner's manual of the heart, and if you follow the directions, you will be a happier, more harmonious person. Like Stairmasters, oat bran, and other things that are good for you, the meditations take discipline. Even so, some of the strategies are kind of fun: "Imagine the people in your life as tiny infants and as 100-year-old adults." The trouble is, once you start, it's hard to stop.
作者简介Best-selling author Richard Carlson, Ph.D., creator of the popular Don't Sweat the Small Stuff series and the just published Don't Get Scrooged, died suddenly of cardiac arrest enroute to New York on December 13. Carlson, 45, published his first book in 1985 and went on to publish more than 20 books that remain popular in English and in translation in 130 languages and 35 countries. Richard Carlson grew up in Piedmont, CA. He received his undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University and his Ph.D. in psychology from Sierra University. He was in private practice as a psychotherapist when he started to publish books about psychological and spiritual health. As his books started to attract a large audience, he began writing full time so he could teach more people how to live with presence and ease by cultivating gratitude and generosity. Dr. Carlson was a large supporter of and participant in the National Center for Family Literacy and at the time of his death he was working on a project with them called for "A Penny a Book" from publishers, authors and literary agents to promote literacy. Dr. Carlson is survived by his wife and life partner of 25 years, Kris Carlson, his co-author on Don't Sweat the Small Stuff in Love and the author of Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Women, his loving daughters Jasmine and Kenna, sisters, Kathleen Carlson Mowris of Olympic Village, CA and Anna L. Carlson of La Selva Beach, CA, and his parents, Barbara and Don Carlson of Orinda, CA. A private memorial service will be held next week. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Richard's honor to local food banks, Challenge Day, Girls Inc. or Children Inc.

内容没得说,书的质量也挺好!~ 快递也很快!
不错的书,质量挺好,就是觉得外文书真是贵呀
很不错的书籍,值得买
Each chapter in this book spans 1-2 small pages, with like, size 12 font. It gives you glimpses into how Richard Carlson viewed and approached interactions in his family and work using compassion, patience, and self-love.
He draws your attention to common life scenarios and suggests a perspective that often differs from the instinctual response of the moment. At times you'll reflect to yourself how "obvious" some idea or another is, but rather than write the entire book off I suggest you appreciate your awareness of that perspective, and then continue reading.
This book is not an elaborate manual for how to live your life. If anything, it's a reminder: we get so caught up in our lives, our jobs, or habits that we go on auto-pilot and forget to bring ourselves back to the present moment. Carlson is saying, don't forget to examine your responses, to consider whether they are in line with a peaceful way of thinking, and to realize, if they aren't, that you can change them.
I have four stars because it does have a ton of great techniques to overcome stress, but some of the techniques were very closely related. Seemed several of the chapters could have been under one heading, not two. Besides being a little repetitive his writing style is exceptional, very down to earth and detailed with specific examples for each technique. It was an easy, although long read. Seems like it was written as a daily or weekly journal of ideas. You can skip around to any short chapter 2-3 pages for most and get a great nugget of wisdom. If that is what you are looking for, this book does that very well! Richard is obviously very knowledgeable about the subject and shares his ideas with no ego or scientific rhetoric. Good read.
Great book. Really helps cool you down and make you feel relaxed and happy. If you get in a fight with your significant other, had a bad day, feel like nothing is working for you open this book up read a few chapters and then see how you feel!
There are 2 books that I consider to be the best ones ever written on the subject of worry and anxiety. The first is this one, and the other is "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living," by Dale Carnegie. They can be read together or each one can be read alone. I've reviewed Dale Carnegie's book elsewhere, so now for this book. It truly is amazing when words in a book can be life changing. That's exactly what this book is. There are people who say that the contents of this book are so obvious that the book deserves only 1 star. They are entirely missing the point. The fact that everything the author states is obvious, makes it even more effective at reaching those who feel that their life is being overrun by worry and anxiety. Richard Carlson wrote this book in a simplistic manner for a reason. The simplicity in which it's written serves as a catalyst to provide instant relief from the burdens of everyday life. His main premise is that there is virtually nothing that is so important that it's worth ruining your life over with worry. If you read the entire book, which you can easily do in a day or two; you'll quickly realize that there is nothing in this world that's so important as to cause you to have constant worry and anxiety over. Life is short and 99.9% of the things that we worry about and that cause us intense anxiety, never happen. The tiny percentage of things that do happen, always have a solution. This book is incredibly helpful at completely eliminating worry and anxiety. It worked for me and it can work for you. Personally; reading just this book by itself cured me, however; I decided that I wanted to read the book mentioned above by Dale Carnegie as a companion to this one. I have to say that the 2 books combined will provide you with a firewall against any worry and anxiety that you have, regardless of how long you've had it. As a side note, sadly, Richard Carlson died at a very young age from a pulmonary embolism during a flight from San Francisco to New York. Life truly is short, so there's no point in spending it with worry and anxiety.
