YA novel that's well written and absorbing. I was reading this on the bus one day and missed my stop because I was engrossed in the book. I'm an adult who likes to read YA from time to time and found this one a fun read. Good, tight writing, that keeps the plot going in a steady pace. It makes the idea of a 14-year-old MI-6 spy very believable along with the impossible scrapes he gets into. He's a normal teenager but with a good head on his shoulders. It's a nice break from the usual teenage girl assassin/vampire hunter/whiny-romance YA novels out there.My only quibble is I wish Alex's character was a tad more developed. I'm hoping it will get better as I read the other books in the series.
This is one of those books that everyone loves. All four of my siblings and I agree that it is one of the greatest series out there, and getting us to agree on anything is near impossible. The storyline is easy enough to follow, but may be too graphic for younger readers. It is about a spy, so there is a small amount of violence (nothing too graphic, but probably too much for an advanced 7 year old reader). Also, although the storyline is simple, some of the words are a bit advanced. Kids and adults alike love this book. It is the beginning of one of the best series. If you are planning on reading this, plan on many months and many more books, because you won't ever want it to end.
This is the first time I read the Alex Rider series. My friend recommended it to me. It is one of the best series I have ever read, because there is non stop action, never a dull moment and last but not least almost each seen is really intense. I would recommend this book to people that like action and suspense.
Stormbreaker introduces us to Alex Rider. He is 14 years old. The first part of the series is about the death of Alex's Uncle, Ian Rider. The police say he died in a car accident. but when Alex goes to the car dump he discovers that he did not die in a car accident, he was shot with a machine gun through the car window! He also finds out that his uncle was not a banker he was a secret agent. The teller at the window took Alex under the bank to the offices of MI6, the secret spy agency Uncle Ian worked for. Alex was hired by the owner of the agency and his task was to complete his uncle's last mission, to go to London and find Yassen, the evil villain who wanted to become prime minister at any cost.
The ending of Stormbreaker really makes me want to read the next book in the series, Point Blank.
This was a great book and this is the book that got me into this series. I saw the movie first but I like the book better. In my thought if you are going to start to read this series then watch the movie first to see if you would be interested. I love how the author was descriptive when Alex was snooping around and when he was fighting. I know you will like this book and if your 13 or 14 years old because you will relate to the character like me. I'm 13 years old so i can relate to what he is thinking or doing except i am not a MI6 Agent. If i was you i would watch the video and then read, then when your done i like to think what is different or similar between the two of them. Another adventure for the reluctant teenage spy Alex Ryder. A reclusive billionaire has offered to donate personal computers, called Stormbreakers, to every school in England. In a public ceremony, the Prime Minister will remotely boot-up all the computers at once. MI6, suspecting all is not as it seems, sends spy Ian Ryder to investigate. When Ianis killed, they turn to his nephew, and heir, Alex, to uncover whatever plot is afoot. This is mindless adventure, with Alex facing impossible odds and overcoming them. Stormbreakers is a quick read, and fun, but don't expect to find any deep messages.
