Good Book! Beautiful pictures and meaningful story.
是CD,没有书,还以为是书带CD的呢~
I think this is my fave JD/AS book so far (we have the Gruffalo books, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale, and have read The Highway Rat, which is my least favorite- didn't like the ending).
This is very sweet, and teaches happy and sad feelings. We have the British version so that my American-born child is talking about trousers... (not sure if the American version uses the same term, but I understand it uses "spiffy" instead of "smart.").
Highly recommended.
Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler are consistently a winning combination in today's flood of children's books, and The Smartest Giant in Town ranks as one of the top - and we own nearly 20 of their books!
Living in the city my 4.5 year old twins regularly ask about how to help people we see on the street that may be down on their luck. This whimsical story is one of the few that brings forth the importance of selfless giving to others. Recently my son even asked if I could give a man one of his granola bars I had in my bag, because he wasn't hungry and figured that man needed it more than he did. This warmed my heart, and made both kids happy when I passed the granola bar and a bottle of water to the man. We also refer to this book when we gather clothes and toys for donation. This used to be a struggle, but now they gather things themselves that they know they don't use anymore.
My four year old loves this book! It's great. He talks on and on about different "spiffy" clothes. (He wants to wear a tie because of this book!!)
However, this is the British version. The English version is titled, "The Spiffiest Giant in Town". The British notion of "Smart" is much different from that of Americans (who assume that a "smart" something is intellectually gifted). In this book, "smart" means "well dressed". For American audiences, I highly recommend the American version: "The Spiffiest Giant in Town".
Bought this for 3 and 4 year old. Love this author. Besides room on a broom and stickman this is my kids fave book of hers. I love the little melody and rhyme my kids know this story and song we made up all by heart. It is a treat reading this book and the kids actually sit and listen to it!
Julia Donaldson is one of our favourite writers, and The Spiffiest... is one of her best works. It's a great story, showcasing the gentleness and kindness of a eminently likable giant, but what we enjoyed particularly about this book was the cadence it has. The repetition of the ever lengthening song that the giant sings works wonderfully, reinforcing the action and hence making it easier for toddlers to understand, and also creating a sing song feel (though I havent figured a great tune for it yet). Totally recommended for kids above 3, and I am very happy to read it repeatedly as an adult too.
