Miss Julia meets her match in more ways than one in this romp of a Southern comedy. Her first mistake is signing a lease allowing an unprepossessing stranger to build a Walk Where Jesus Walked Theme Park on her property. Soon the town is in an uproar--WWJW's Mary Magdalen has some confessing she wants to do about her past sins with half the husbands of the town. Meanwhile Sam Murdoch can't understand why Julia won't marry him, and the housekeeper's 5-year-old great-granddaughter, Latisha, can't understand why this isn't the kind of theme park with talking mice and flume rides. Claudia Hughes narrates with a light touch and a sense of humor, a perfect match for Miss Julia's spunk and charm. What do you do if you're a genteel, well-to-do widow on the far side of 70 who discovers her late husband had a mistress and a young son? If you're Miss Julia, you swallow your pride and take Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd into your home. That was four books ago. Now, in her latest outing, Miss Julia hears a rumor that another one of her husband's paramours is in town. She'd like to keep this quiet, and fortunately the people of Abbotsville have plenty else to gossip about. There's the transformation of Tony Allen into Tonya, and church secretary Norma's relationship with Mayor Beebe, and the construction of the dubious Walk Where Jesus Walked theme park outside of town. To Miss Julia's chagrin, there's also talk about her friendship with Sam, who keeps pressing her to marry him. A fun read for Miss Julia fans. Mary Ellen Quinn
