Physical Properties of Rocks, Volume 18: Fundamentals and Principles of Petrophy |
The book is a comprehensive and concise systematic presentation of the physical properties of rocks. It is focussed on the problems of applied geophysics with respect to exploration and the expanding field of applications in engineering and mining geophysics, geotechnics, hydrology and environmental problems, and the properties under the conditions of the upper earth crust. This volume contains theoretical and experimental results relating to the main geophysical properties - density, magnetic properties, natural radioactivity, elastic and anelastic properties, electrical and thermal. It also presents the correlation between the individual properties as a basis of modern interpretation methods, including relationships between geophysical and geotechnical properties.

"...the collective nature of the work makes it a useful reference to have around, especially given the re-emergence of methods such as electromagnetics for oil field applications over a range of scales of measurement. The treatment if fully pertinent to geophysical research, where the integration of diverse methodolgoes is widely practised. It is also relevant to aspects of (shallow) engineering geophysics. I am pleased to commend it to persons working in all three areas, as a highly useful and informative reference work." -Paul F. Worthington, in PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCE, 2005 ..a comprehensive and concise systematic presentation of the physical properties of rocks. Petroleum Abstracts, 2005 D.C. Bartel ..can be a useful reference to those involved in estimating rock properties from seismic and well logging measurements, as well as others needing a reference to relate different physical properties.
