Essay:
Constantly reading from the newspapers and watching news on TV is a common lifestyle for those people who choose to spend their time and stay informed about what is happening far and near. However, it seems that creative professionals would think differently because news is not that important in real life.
To those creative minds, news is a waste of time because it has no connection to people’s life in pursuit of their professional goals. They have not found one piece of news that did substantially increase the quality of their life, in comparison to how their lives would have unfolded if they had not read or seen it. There is not a single truly creative mind who is news addictive—not a writer, musician, or painter. On the contrary, there may be a whole bunch of viciously uncreative minds who consumer news like drugs. Reading from the newspapers and watching TV news could do nothing to move them closer to their goals, and anything that is not moving them closer is holding them back. So, they would be better off using that time to solve problems in life and achieve their goals. Pretty much all the issues reported on TV and in the newspapers are beyond their circle of professional life.
Nevertheless, the majority of people feel that more news is better than less and it is important to stay informed up-to-minute. They want to know the reason things are happening, even if it is bad news, so they can adjust their life’s expectations and react accordingly. To a great extent, modern human beings cannot imagine a life without information from the news media, including print media, broadcast news, and more recently the Internet. For example, news from one country to another is important in today’s world as knowing what is happening in other countries gives people a perspective of each other’s way of life. As well, news from a local area is often important to advise people about events that may have an impact on the day-to-day life. In short, news affects how people live their lives, how they perform their jobs, and how they make decisions.
In conclusion, the opinion to what extent news has connection to people’s life varies from person to person. For the creative minds, news wastes time; while for many people there is no better way to digest time than reading newspapers and watching TV news.
