Essay Topic:
>People often think about creating an ideal society, but most of them fail in making it happen. What is your opinion about an ideal society? How can we create an ideal society? Give reasons for our answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience to support your opinion.
Example Writing (Jeenn Lee Hsieh):
The vision of an ideal society varies from person to person, and it seems not possible to create a perfect society for an imperfect individual. When painting that vision, perhaps the two predominant colors should be green and rosy. As if only in dreams, the rosy color inspires us to have hearts to be in peace with each other; and the green color reminds us that we ought to lead an existence in harmony with nature.
First, dream rosy, in the context that a society as a mental concept is simply an individual multiplied. That said, we would like to see that all individuals share a core set of human values related to social, economic, political and judicial systems. That is a rosy society which is characterized by full employment, full well-being, zero governing, zero crime. Without exceptions, all basic human needs are timely met and all is well and no individual should be left behind. So, it can be imagined that in an perfect society, people are righteous, kind, honest, unselfish, accepting, open to others' views, and the like virtues. However, the problem is that even a civilized world is not likely to be as rosy as we wish it to be, and that inborn human weaknesses such as greed and vanity are bound to prevent an ideal society from happening at all.
As well, dream green. Not only should human beings look forward to living in peace among themselves but also they should care about the fate of the global society increasingly threatened by self-destroying activities. We know that our planet is not as green as it used to be because human beings are not particularly in harmony with nature. In all appearances, the entire ecosystem is in danger due mainly to excessive logging, illegal hunting, over-fishing, air and water pollution, and so on. In other words, the world in which we live in is being damaged to such an extent that the biodiversity is losing much of its ecological landscape, and it seems gradually becoming like hell. So, chances are that we might not be able to create a heaven on earth, and that the lest we should do is to keep that kind of hell as far away as possible.
In conclusion, the appropriate way for us as human beings to see an ideal society is to look through the colors of rosy and green. Judging from the way we are behaving, however, the perfect society to which we aspire in dreams would fail to happen. Still, it is always worth trying a quest for an 'earthly paradise', a place like Shangri-La or a perfect society that would never decline nor need to improve.
