  SAYING

  YES

The following expressions give a strong Yes! or affirmation. Also, they areoften used to show enthusiasm or willingness to fulfill someone’s request or toindicate that one is very sure about something:

  Yes,indeed

  Sure

  Ofcourse

  Absolutely

  Definitely

  Nodoubt about it

  Tobe sure

  Youbet (slang)

  Youbetcha (slang, familiar)

The three expressions that follow could bused for any casual situation that requires a yes answer. But they’re most often used when the yes doesn’t need much show ofenthusiasm. In more formal situations, they may be considered rude. Theseexpressions are the opposite of nah, nope, and uh-uh, respectively:

  Yeah

  Yup

  Uh-huh

In addition, here are two ways to say yes that have specific uses andimplications:

  Right:

used to affirm what some says. Eg. Matt: This is her house? Ario: Right。

I’mafraid so: used when yes is not good news. Eg. Yash:Did your team les the game? Dana: I’m afraid so。
