In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for illustration, and he remains the only American ever awarded this honor. In 1983 Sendak received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, given in recognition of his entire body of work. He also received a 1996 National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America.

就是口袋书,超贵,不值
I read this book as a kid and had a sing a long cassette to go with it. I can't find the song anymore so the book isn't quite the same for my boys. I can't remember the tune to put the words to. Basic synopsis - Pierre doesn't care to do anything, so a lion eats him. His parents rush the lion to the hospital to get Pierre out and he learns to care.
I never know how to properly review books on Amazon. In this instance, I'd read (and sang) "Pierre" hundreds of times prior to purchasing, so it seems awkward to base the star rating on content. The story is endlessly entertaining, it's weird, it's clever, it rhymes, it has a moral and cute, classically Sendak illustrations. It features a lion and a bratty main character not unlike Max of "Wild Things" fame. And really, if you haven't read it already, are you going to rely on Vine reviewers to give you first insight into a book published in 1962? I wouldn't.
So that leaves commenting almost exclusively on this particular edition and the packaging. It's a paperback and tiny. Although I checked the dimensions before buying, I was still surprised at how little the actual book felt. Quality is good for the price and the layout is just like I remembered the classic version being, so no surprise edits there. I bought this as a topper to a gift and I think it was perfect for that purpose. Had I gotten just the book itself, I might have second guessed giving it solo as a present - a bit chintzy. But the story is great and the price is right. Don't hesitate to add this to your order. Just be aware that the most substantial part will be the writing, not the physical.
Very cute book. My husband remembered this book from when he was in school 20 somethings years ago. When my daughter would say "I don't care" he told her she would be like Pierre. So finally I looked up this book and got it for her for Christmas this past year. We all got a kick out of it when she opened it up. She was speechless it was a real book. She is 15 and when she says I don't care now i tell her to go get the book and read it. She doesn't say that very much anymore.
I bought three of these books. They are indeed very small as described by the overview and by reviewers. The illustrations are great, so it would be better if the book came in a bigger size. If you can find it, I recommend getting the bigger size. Also, while I remember loving these stories, I forgot that pierre got eaten, so that's a bit creepy. I am not sure how I feel about this yet. But it is a classic and I felt like it would be great to have in our childrens collection - if not for them then atleast for nostalgic reasons.
