This Moose Belongs to Me

WINNER of the Irish Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year 2012 and the Honour Award for Illustration from Childrens' Books Ireland, 2013.

An exquisite new book, featuring a boy and his moose, from internationally bestselling, multi-prize-winning picture book creator, Oliver Jeffers.

“Wilfred owned a moose. He hadn’t always owned a moose. The moose came to him a while ago and he knew, just KNEW, that it was meant to be his. He thought he would call him Marcel.”

Most of the time Marcel is very obedient, abiding by the many rules on How to Be a Good Pet. But one dark day, while deep in the woods, someone else claims the moose as their own…

Is Marcel really Wilfred’s pet after all?

An beautifully-illustrated, witty and thought-provoking story, exploring the concept of ownership.

This is a wonderful story written for any age of child. A boy befriends a moose. The boy starts to think of the moose as a pet, that he owns it. Then the moose goes away. The boy tries to find the moose. He finds that another person has a different name for the moose and thinks it belongs to her. Ownership issues arise. The boy must come to terms with the meaning of wildness and to respect it. The ending is downright hilarious.

This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I have ever seen. And the message is timeless and universal. I think any age of person would enjoy it and would remember it for years to come.

I am on my way to owning EVERY Oliver Jeffers book! We absolutely LOVE his work!!! His stories are so witty, original and cute!!! My grandmother, who also shares a love of children's books w me has also fallen in love, and bought herself a copy! My 4 year old absolutely adores his books (but I might more!) Sometimes, when I teach (I am an elementary substitute teacher in the state of Washington) I bring his books to read as a "reward" at the end of the day. Just LOVE them. Really smart. GREAT illustrations!!!

This book was received so well by my 3 year old grandson, who actually laughed while listening to the story, that I bought another one for my other grandson. His mother & father both loved the book! The story is so different and entertaining, with just enough of a twist to make it a favorite for all! This Moose Belongs to Me is a great book and I recommend it!

*This Moose Belongs to Me* is a delightful tale told from the egocentricity of a child. It develops the understanding that in life, what we think is ours, may in fact be shared by many. I purchased this as a birthday gift for a 3-year-old. Where she now is entertained and interested in the pictures and artistry of the page, at some point through multiple readings (which DOES happen!), she'll get the underlying message it presents. Good choice!

A lovely story about a boy who thinks he owns a moose...the pictures are beautiful and I love how this book has a moral but it's not in your face.
