非常喜欢!这是送给自己最好的圣诞节礼物。书中字里行间都能感受到托老对子女满满的父爱!托老想象力非常丰富,创作了《指环王》《霍比特人》等许多名著,以后会继续拜读托老的其他作品。
One of my favorite holiday books of all time. It makes me want to write to my children. I only gave one star because I do NOT recommend the Kindle version. I read this originally for a book club, and the illustrations and handwriting are a huge part of this work, which I didn't realize until I went to Book Club and saw someone's print version. I had seriously missed out. Buy a print version.
This book is fabulous. The letters are adorable, sure to win the hearts of young and old. I ordered this to read with my granddaughter. We loved the letters and decided that reading them together was a new Christmas tradition for us. Even better are the illustrations. I ordered a second copy as I plan to frame some of them as the most charming Christmas decorations. I wish I could buy the originals of the illustrations. Truly, Tolkien was a genius. If you only know his "Lord of the Rings" or "Hobbit" booms, you're in for a treat.
Such a fun book! I read it with with my children, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. This is a collection of letters that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote to his children from Father Christmas from 1920 to 1943. The actual envelopes, letters, and pictures that he drew and painted for them are printed in the book, along with text that makes the letters easier to read. It is a delight to read the fun and crazy stories he made up for his children about Father Christmas' adventures with his friends and helpers in the North Pole. He adds more characters as the years go on - red elves, green elves, goblins, gnomes, etc. And you can see the beginnings of his ideas that found full fruition in The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. It is also interesting to hear about his children growing up, and the times they are living through - the depression, and World War II.
If you want the original with the full-sized letters, get the revised edition with the blue cover. It's a large hardcover book, and you can get it used.
It's a great book. There are pictures of the letters, and there are some drawings. Where the letter would not have fit, they type it all out. Mine came with an odd taping job on the cover, but the tape was old so I fixed it.
I wanted to love this book. I read many reviews before I purchased. The book is good but not great in my opinion. It's a series of letters from Santa (and his side kick Polar Bear) to the author's children. Don't get me wrong, it's cute. The Polar Bear is often getting into mischief which my children found humorous. I guess I just expected more from this author. It wasn't an engaging story. It is just simply a collection of letters that the author actually wrote to his children each year. Endearing, yes. But not sure I would have purchased it had I known how simplistic it would be.
