An understandable primer on the contradictions within the basic architecture of the EU in general and the Eurozone in particular, and why these contradictions may indeed lead to stress fractures.
National politics--the arena where real people vote--and EU governance where elites meet are often in opposition because elected representatives like power to be centralized at the level where they are located. And trying to move important money decisions too far away from the legislative houses elected by national electorates is a recipe for backlash.
Very illuminating book.
This is a very balanced book with the pros of the Eurin and the Brexit crowds
Frankly it does not show much benefit to staying in Europe as opposed to regaining the links with the Commonwealth

Excellent book that thoroughly analyze the EU-project. Written for a British audience Bootle's criticism of EU is also highly relevant for the citizens of other member states.
Mr. Bootle expresses himself clearly and this is a good primer for the Eurosceptic who wants to be able to do the same.
