Media and Martha Stewart-friendly Lorena Siminovich is a San Francisco-based artist, designer, and illustrator. Her one-of-a-kind, hand assembled collages have been sold in such stores as Pottery Barn and Anthropolgie. Her company, Petit Collage, has been featured on Web sites such as Design Sponge, Urban Outfitters, and Apartment Therapy and in magazines like House Beautiful and Country Living. Lorena started her Petit Collage line in 2006, with the idea of offering affordable art (wall decor and accessories) for children (and grownups), with a modern feel. The collages are made with found, recycled, painted, and vintage papers on maple plywood. In 2001 Lorena worked as an art director and product developer creating fun stationery and puzzles for Galison and Mudpuppy. She has written and illustrated several children's books, including In My Nest and In My Pond (CB, Spring 2009).

These sturdy cards clearly display each letter in capital form on one side and capital next to lowercase on the back, along with something that begins with that letter --this sums up why these cards are the best. Most other cards are either flimsy, or the letter is next to a picture, or its smaller in the corner... basically, most others have distractions on the card that take the child's attention away from what he/she needs to focus on first. With these, they can clearly see the letter, and then turn it over to find what they should associate it with. I've used these with my son since he was 2, he's now almost 3 and recognizes letters when we are driving down the road or on people's shirts! I really do think it's because these are such simple, straightforward cards that show what they are supposed to without cutsey distractions. I wish Petit Collage would make some number flash cards!
-Sturdy, durable. We've used them for a year now and they still look great.
-Clearly written letters without distractions on one side; More detail on the other side if you want it.
- The artwork, though simple, is still so pretty!
Excellent! The quality of these flashcards is amazing. Gorgeous rich colors and thick enough cardstock to handle continuously while also being thin enough to stack easily. I hung them in our schoolroom/playroom on a clothesline and as we learn the sounds we will flip them over, although I had to be honest I had a hard time deciding which side to display because they are both so gorgeous! My son was so enamored by them when I pulled them out of the box, he insisted we go through and review our sounds and letters immediately, even though I tried to persuade him we had plenty of time for it later. As a former teacher, I was so tired of primary colors and tired graphics. These will contemporize any playroom or nursery if put on display and are inviting for eager learners. My only critique is that the font is not necessarily the way children are taught to print (D'Nelian) but that so often differs from schools/texts/districts, I imagine it would be difficult to find something everyone would agree upon. Other than that, these are crisp and beautiful and so much more than I even expected. Love, love, love!
One pet peeve I have with alphabet cards and books is that the letters are done in script, or some ornate lettering that confuses kids. I like the clean, sans serif font on these cards and that both upper and lower case are used. The pictures also have a minimalist but charming quality which appeal to me and my toddler. I think these cards were key to her learning her alphabet. She learned most of her letters just by having these cards, without any sort of formal use by us. I also liked the size and the sturdiness of the cards. They are great.
So many uses for these. Baby liked the pictures at first- which are cute and well illustrated. I've even seen moms hanging them in the nursery to spell the baby's name or display the images. Now my toddler is using them more for the letters. We play school and spell out words and name the alphabet, etc. For the price, the value can't be beat!
After searching for a perfect flash cards that did not look generic, I found these on Amazon.com. These flash cards were more than I expected and I was thrilled when I opened them up for the first time. The box that all the flash cards comes in is beautiful and sturdy. The flash cards are very thick and big for our little guy to read and carry around. There are also beautiful art on every card. One side has the capital letter and the other side has the capital and the lower case letter with an art representing that letter. I couldn't have asked for more in a flash card.
They are absolutely beautiful and you'll get a lot of use out of these even if your little one has learned all the ABCs. Our son has got tons of studying out of these and now I'm using these as hanging art in the playroom wall using clothespins on a string. Eventually when we get bored of this, I'll probably spell his name out using these flash cards with a frame and put it in his room.
