This book really makes an interesting reading. It is very well written with a comprehensive story line that not only guides you through the chapters and use of various Oracle BPM patterns, but also gives you details around Oracle BPM 12c features.
I learned things in this book that have really helped me understand other parts of BPM in a very different way. Of the many books, this one told me a lot about BPM and 12c features due to its focus on BPM patterns.
It is also true that BPM is a big topic, spanning so many areas, that it just isn't practical to cover however Author has done a wonderful job in defining BPM patterns and also covering the latest BPM 12c features.
Overall this book is a valuable contribution to the BPM knowledge base as well as providing an excellent reference for the Oracle BPM patterns and 12c.
This book is both for Business Analyst, Architect, Developers, case and Knowledge managers and for everyone. It not just meant for Oracle product but it's very generic and anyone associated with BPM will find it useful.
* For developers there is rich information on BPM patterns, advanced BPM patterns for modeling & implementation, Human Task patterns, invocation and interactions patterns. Additionally samples and code to learn-by-example.
* For architects it provides enough information about Process modeling, methodology and its implementations. Patterns describe the best practice to adopt in modeling and designing.
* For Business architects and process/solution architects & Enterprise Architects, it provides strategic, goal, objective and process mapping though Business architecture as new feature in SOA/BPM 12c.
* For Case and Knowledge Managers/Workers this book talks exclusively about adaptive case management (ACM).
* For all it contains all the BPM 12c features with samples so you can learn-by-example.
It covers features like - strategic alignment, value chain model, KPI, working on business context which I found very valuable in any BPM project and a must have for in any BPM offering. Author did a fantastic job in demonstrating how a business architecture model can be used effectively to inline the goals, objectives, strategies, and value chain, which expedite IT development and always keep business and IT in concert.
This book is both for anyone associated with SOA & BPM. Along with patterns, features and business architecture, you get a project/sample associated with every chapter. I found the concept of learning things along with performing samples as the best way to learn and this book helps you do so. It not only provides a good overview of BPM but also helps you to go deep into BPM (if you are new to BPM).This book is an all thumb up and should not be missing in any serious SOA/BPM/Cloud implementers, designers & architects, process & business analysts and sales folk library.
I think this book is an excellent choice if you want to play around BPM 12c and work on various patterns. Book contains samples for each patterns and are very well covered. This is a best bet for diving into BPMN implementation details.
Interestingly it;s the first book on 12c (SOA 12c/BPM12c) and it covers enterprise architecture feature in 12c like adaptive case management, business architecture etc, PAM etc.
It covers almost all the new features available in BPM 12c and Author has taken a generic approach and all those who works on any BPM will find it really very valuable. The book contains the following Chapters:
Flow Control Patterns
Multi-instance and State-based Patterns
Invocation Patterns
Human Task Patterns
Interaction Patterns
Correlation Patterns
Exception Handling Patterns
Adaptive Case Management
Advanced Patterns
Installing Oracle BPM Suite 12c
Chapter 4 is all about human workflow patterns and no stone is left untouched related to modeling and implementing human workflow and human task. Chapter 1 and 2 covers most of the modeling patterns. Chapter 7 on error handling is a superb read and allows business users and technical folks to build and model a solution in BPM. ACM and BA chapters are written with precise and explains the features very well.
This book is outstanding for anyone and everyone related to BPM . If you are looking for a text book on BPM Patterns and SOA/BPM 12c, this book fits.
I recently read this book. It's a quite original approach to BPM which completelly contrasts with the classiccal one consisting in providing the old good Loan Broker example. In this book, the author deconstructs one by one all the BPMN2 workflow notation and propose very consistent, real world based examples. Additionally, it is as far as I know, the only book demistifying the BPM 12c specific features. A must have for any BPM architect/developper.
The downloaded code does not provide the artifact as it is described in the book. I have tried hard to figure-out the work-around for the missing file but left at no luck. I got stopped in the first chapter itself because of the missing artifact(the main BPMN flow)
I doubt the number of files missing might increase going forward to the following chapters.
I have sent an email with the details about the discrepancy, and will update the review accordingly.
