It's Your Money: What Will You Do With It?

Eric and Kelsey were a few years out of college with a brand new house they could barely afford and nearly $40,000 in debt. After overspending $1,500 one month, the Williamses decided to clean up their act before starting a family and spent the next 23 months digging their way out of debt on a very average household income. This book will tell you how they did it and give you practical steps on how you can do it, too. You might be frustrated with all of the money advice you get. It can be very pointed and opinionated. But there is usually more than one way of doing things. While understanding financial principles is great, you'll ultimately have to discover what works for you and your money. It's Your Money is a book with two parts. The first part tells the Williamses' story, filled with money lessons they learned throughout their early adult life - how they ended up in debt due to financial mistakes and lessons they were never taught growing up. Part II is filled with practical action steps to help you get a handle on your own finances and start developing a plan to help you achieve your goals. You'll be motivated and inspired to win with your money.

There are so many books/seminars/apps these days that are dedicated to budgeting, but rarely do they feel relatable. Instead of just spouting numbers and stats and percentages, this book actually talks about budgeting in terms of real life. Eric shares the how and the why and the implemention of a real life budget. His use of stories about his life and their budget takes something that seems so distant and foreign and mechanical and turns it into a part of everyday life. For me, budgeting seems so impersonal and ugly and a barrier to living your life the way you want. Eric takes the mystery and stigma out of it, and shows you that it not only enhance your life, but create a way to really connect with your partner. I will be sharing this book with everyone I know. It's a great read!!

This book is a quick read, which is great if you don't have a lot of down time. It is read like a conversation that Eric Williams from WordsofWilliams is having with you, not at you. It starts off with a little background about how he and his wife were brought up and their ideas of money then, which is very relatable, if you want something, earn the money, spend the money. It goes on to discuss their bad habits and how they earned some of their debt, and then their plans to get out of debt. It's great because it doesn't say to force yourself to say no to everything fun, just limit yourself. There are real examples of ways to attack debt, which is great.
Overall, Eric's words from this book brings a positive outlook to get out of debt and becoming prepared for any "Oops" moments along the way.

If you're pondering on buying this to read, do it! It's a simple and easy read that you can do in a day, that can impact the rest of your life.

This book and perspective on finances/budgets is down-to-earth and real. This couple through their blog and Eric's book, make them feel like your neighbor, your friend, or family. Real-life stories and examples from this couple make it seem more possible and less complicated than ever!

Eric writes in a casual way that's easy to understand and keeps the reader interested. The information is super valuable, and will definitely come in handy when my husband and I revisit our budgeting skills (or lack thereof). What I loved most was how much I could relate to their story, especially as a young newlywed with little money experience.

The Williams's story is so relatable and gives my hope for my financial situation. I recommend this book for those wanting a down to earth, real family who went through problems with debt.
